i was not expecting to give this book a solid five stars, considering how critical i was of the first book, but i can say that whatever the first book was missing, this perfected. i got through this so fast and it did not lose my interest once. for starters, the pacing of this book was much better than the first and things just flowed so much smoother (this could also be due to the fact that the world of faerie and the characters were already established versus in the first book when we were learning about it for the first time but i digress). also, in regards to my main complaint about the first book, which is that judes character is insufferable and generic, surprisingly shes improved so much in this book. i didnt find myself grimacing at her stupidity or rolling my eyes at the super cliche “im not like other girls” way she was written in the first book. she’s definitely grown as a person and it has made all the difference in my ability as a reader to take her seriously and root for her the whole time. also the sheer amount of BETRAYAL had me kicking my feet and giggling. i loved it. this book was just so much more well rounded and put together in every way and i cannot wait to read the third.

The first 3/4 of this book took me so so long to get into. It was painfully slow and just a lot of boring politics. The last quarter however, kept me HOOKED. I thought this was going to be a 3 star read until the very end.
This is definitely very very slow burning and sometimes even annoyingly so, but I have high hopes for the 3rd book.

4/5 estrellas

4/5 stars

The story of Jude and Cardan progresses and with it the main plot. In this second book more secrets are revealed, pacts will be made between allies and betrayals will not be lacking.

It remains a story in which nobody can be trusted and in which everyone wants to have control of the kingdom and the crown. But we get to know some characters a little more and show some feelings that it seems they did not have before. The relationship between Jude and Cardan evolves, but misunderstandings and Jude's eagerness to be accepted as one of them put certain impediments.

And the ending leaves you wanting more.

✨REVIEW✨

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have to admit that I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first book, The Cruel Prince. It was okay in my opinion and I didn’t get why it was so hyped up. I did however read it during the worst reading slump I’ve ever suffered through, so I decided to give the rest of the series a try.

And I’m so happy that I did! The pacing, the intrigue, the romance between Jude and Cardan, the dynamics between Jude and Taryn, the betrayal, the lies, …
This book really took me by surprise and had me wrapped from start to finish (that plot twist at the end
