Seguramente cuando termineis de leer mi reseña pensareis que este libro no me ha gustado pero ni por asomo a sido así...No he llegado a ponerle cinco estrellas por todas las cosas que he encontrado que me cansaban al leerlo. 1)El primer fallo que le he encontrado es que muchas veces había partes que la tinta de la letra estaba tan leve o letras impresas a mitad que costaba leerlo, aunque no se si es porque tal vez sea una copia ya que hace poco me entere que loa libros también se falsifican. 2)Letra muy pequeña y mucho contexto aunque eso también se debe a que me dejaron edición de bolsillo. 3) En si a mi me encanta todo el tema de descubrimientos, tumbas, etc ya que historia del arte era mi asignatura favorita en el bachillerato que estudie,pero con este libro me ja ocurrido algo raro. Lo que no me ha gustado a la vez se convierte en algo que si...no me explico mucho pero paso a intentar explicarme mejor. Esperaba que no fuera como leer un libro de la escuela , sino que fuera un poco mas como si me contaran una historia para hacermelo más ameno pero al final me metia en lo que me contaba pero me faltaban fotos para entenderlo mejor aunque eso si que ya lo hubiera convertido en un libro de escuela...no se si me he explicado bien...

Klar ist der Spaß schon etwas älter und sachlich nicht mehr so aktuell, aber die verschiedensten Bereiche der Geschichte der Archäologie wurden sehr verständlich und reflektiert beleuchtet.
Und es war basically ein Bilderbuch, weil jedes besprochene Thema zahlreiche visuelle Stützen hatte.

utilized this edition for a class i took at asu. absolutely loved it. it helps though that i am interested in egyptian art and history, but it was a delightfully light read. i would recommend it to anyone that wanted to learn about egyptians history and art and not fall asleep in the process.

A great overview. I wish there was more detail about the digs themselves, but Ceram weaves an engaging, accessible narrative on a wide breadth of world history. I found it fascinating (and so dismaying!) how many artifacts were stolen, damaged, misplaced, etc., mostly after falling into the wrong hands, as well as how so many sites were tampered with. Reading enough of those stories makes you start to twitch, after a while. Overall, anyone looking for a basic history of world archaeology will find this book very fulfilling.

Actually a 4.5 rating.
This was a really well done book, especially given the available information Ceram had. I really enjoyed it, and it was a super fun read. Ceram kept it clean and clear, which made it easier to read. I also love my physical copy, which is an older publication.

A bit dated, both in some historical tidbits (Egyptian names are in the greek format), but also in the adulation of some not-so-great dudes. It can be frustrating to see people lauded for doing things that, yeah -- maybe they didn't know better back then, but we know better now -- and glossing over things.
