I read this book for the first time in 2012 I think. Now I'm in my late 20s doing a reread of my favorite YA books.
I love this book, I didn't think I was going to cry reading it but it got me at the end. I love the friendship between Halley and Scarlett so much.
I feel like reading these books as an adult there is this different perspective you have with the characters specifically the relationship between Halley and her mom and Scarlett and her's.
My first read through and this last time, I think my opinion of Macon is the same. I feel like he wasn't as bad of a kid, but more that he needed someone that was going to hold his accountable and love him at the same time. He didn't have that with his mom and I think that you can see that in the late part of the book. Not saying Halley was the person to fix him, he needed adults that cared.

it's an easy read...a little bit too teenager for my taste but I've never read anything by that author and I bought two of her novels, so I'll definitely read the other one too

I once had the idea for a story of a girl who founds out she's pregnant when her boyfriend dies. I was reading this book and I couldn't stop thinking about that story. That wasn't idea wasn't perfect and neither is this book, but it was good. And now I'm thinking about the comets.

Meh. I don't have a problem with predictable, but this was just too predictable for my liking.

Another SD re-read; this one holds up better than 'That Summer' and goshdarnit if Macon Faulkner wasn't the terrible boyfriend everyone had in high school.

One of Dessen's earlier books featuring a girl who decideds to stick by her best friend when the friend's boyfriend dies in an accident and the friend is left pregnant. Halley has to learn to support Scarlett when it's always been the other way around.

Well... it was kind of cheesy. When I started reading, I really didn't expect to finish it. Lots of things were unrealistic, over exaggerated, or just plain unbelievable. A high school junior who doesn't turn 16 until like October? I don't think so. Maybe that's just me. Anyway, it did get better. It was a good story, and I ended up finishing it and really liking it. I think I'll read more Sarah Dessen books in the future.

This was my absolute favorite Sarah Dessen book when I was younger, but on the re-read it was more of a 3.5. The fatphobia made it hard to enjoy scenes like the prom where Scarlett is described to be “beautiful, if huge.” It does still have heart and nice moments, but I found myself gravitating to other Sarah Dessen stories more.

Not my typical type of book to read. I read with friends. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I did enjoy it. It was a good book of friendship, loyalty, loss, and choices. I plan to pick up more books by Dessen. I liked the style of writing and how she handle the delicate topics of this one.
