Neil Gaiman does it again in this latest book about a child wishing for something, and getting exactly what he wants, but this time the main character swaps something and trouble ensues. This talk is both silly and yet creepy at the same time, while the dark illustrations add to the strange storyline. I especially liked the background images randomly added in each page, some including real pictures or articles, which enhanced the odd feeling of the tale.

An intriguing story about a swap gone wrong and what a boy and his sister have to do to get their dad back.

Marvelous. Somehow both cheeky/absurd and adorable. I LOVE the art style - not quite like anything else I've ever seen in picture books. The story is surprisingly light in tone for a Neil Gaiman book.

My daughter's fourth grade teacher is introducing them to some wonderful new authors, and Neil Gaiman is one of her favourites. He writes on such fascinating (and ever-so-slightly horrifying) topics. This one is whimsical and weird...and fun.

Funny, entertaining and extremely... caricature-ish. ;) I know it's a book for kids but it felt quite nostalgic to read something as childish and ridiculous as this. XD Of course there is something to be learned from this book - a sort of twisted lesson or something. And that is... never swap your dad for two goldfish. In fact, NEVER swap any family members for anything. Family comes first. ^^ The ending is just... epic. XD

This book was an interesting little adventure, but the afterward about how it came to be was more interesting. It must have been strange to have Neil Gaiman as a parent.
