When you read a romance and find yourself wishing the hot main guy would just dump the main girl to find somebody else.......it's not a good sign! OMG....what a chore this was to read. Sayer's issues were ridiculous since her Dad, the cause of them, was dead! Hello.....smart enough to be a lawyer but too damn dumb to get a shrink. I almost DNF'd but made myself skim it since I had bought it already!
It was a waste of my time even skimming it. I just can't take an entire book where one of the leads can't get it together and spends the entire time pushing the hot guy away. UGH.....even the sex wasn't that hot because after a while it just wasn't believable anymore. It had so much descriptive detail without much dialogue....not my preference.

I uhmed and aghed about rating this. I like this author and yet again this was a well written, low drama romance with a good plot. Hero goes all in from the beginning and it washeartwarming but the h was her own worst enemy. She got in her own way, and it was this aspect that was so laboured, and repeated that I was skimming her inner dialogue from half way in. Dare I say it, I was bored by her. So while this ticked all the points somehow it just didn't come together for me.

My Thank You Note to Jay Crownover,

I've been trying to compose my feelings about Zeb and Sayer's story into a review or an email for a couple of weeks now, and I'm still not there, BUT I wanted to say thank you.

Thank you for Sayer.

Of all the women you've written, she is the one I related to most. It was both refreshing and a little disarming to see so much of "me" on the page.

Thank you for showing that it's okay to be guarded, sometimes thats the only way to survive in life.

Thank you for also showing the softer side to her, the side she reserves for only a few.

Thank you for giving her a man like Zeb. One who can see past the walls she's erected to keep herself and everyone around her safe (or so she thinks), but doesn't push too far too soon. A man who doesn't use her fear or insecurities against her like emotional warfare, but who also loves her too much to let her stay where she's at.

Thank you mostly for being you. Keep writing, keep telling great stories!!

~ Jen

I give this book a 3.5 star! I liked it but it kind of dragged compared to the Marked Men series. Overall I'm happy I read it and the ending was especially sweet.

3.5 to 4 stars.

So happy to have a Jay Crownover book back in my life. I LOVED her marked men series and couldn't wait for The Saints of Denver to start. I enjoyed this book but it wasn't up there for me. Rowdy and Rule are still my favourite JC men.

Still this was a sweet and enjoyable read.

What a great start to a new series from Jay Crownover!! Built is the perfect book for both readers who are new to this author, and fans (like myself) of the hugely popular Marked Men series. It was just the right mix of old and new, and it was so great to see old faces, while keeping the emphasis on Zeb and Sayer. And yes, technically, they are also "old faces" but we neve really got to know them in previous books. So this was their time to shine.

Man, I loved Zeb Fuller. I honestly don't think there was a single thing about him which I didn't like. He was big, built, and bearded. What's not to love?? But it wasn't just his looks that had me falling. He was a gentle giant. So incredibly nice and protective of all those he loves, and when he loves, he loves hard. How could you not swoon over him??

I also liked Sayer. She was the complete opposite of Zeb, but they just worked, no matter how hard she tried to fight it. I loved the reasoning behind the author making Sayer the way she was, and I think it's really important to highlight that. If at any chance you find yourself struggling with Sayer, maybe skip to the end of the book, read the author note, and then go back to the book. You might find yourself with more time for her once you know.

I really loved Zeb and Sayer's story. I loved the struggles that were put it their way, and how they worked to overcome them. I loved the new characters who came along with them, and the parts they played in their story. I loved seeing the characters grow, not only as individuals, but also together. I loved the steam factor, and how the next book in this series has been set up (bring it on!!!), and most of all, I loved that it wasn't an easy journey for Zeb and Sayer, but it was definitely worth the ride.

“Everything, Say. I want everything.”

This book was just meh. The author's penchant for naming all of her characters with "R" and "S" names makes it really hard to follow what the heck is going on.
