I'm really enjoying this series. I love AJ and Maya...total badasses. Axle's scar story tore me up! He held on to his mistrust as long as he could. Great story!

“Count your blessings, because sometimes, life sends you something good to make up for all the bad shit you’ve dealt with.”

“Your scars don’t bother me, because they mean you went through hell and came out on the other side alive. Your scars tell a story.”

“The right person makes you stronger. The wrong person forever drags you down, making you weaker.”

Axle is mine!!!! haha! No, seriously though!

I loved the first two books, but this one is my favourite! I love Axle, he's so broody hottttt that I just couldn't help but fall in love with him.

Again, I love c.m.'s writing style and really enjoyed her putting her quirkiness into this book, Maya definitely puts the capital C on crazy, but in a quirky/loveable way.

I was dreading finding out what happened to Axle when he was a child, and I wasn't went to dread it. My heart broke for him and it completely made sense why he is the way he is.

Another fabulous book in the death chasers series, I can't wait for rush's, and I REALLY hope Jude and Sarah get back together. They just have to. Oh, and I want Drake to have his own book, haha!

**3.5** Maya is a Harley Quinn, mafia princess, and roller derby wannabe. Maya also wants everyone to know how crazy, wild, and psycho she is. In fact, she is so special, she is the only woman to see past Axle's scars to the gentle giant underneath it all. (even the strippers and the club bunnies don't want anything to do with him)

This is a sort of a beauty and the beast retelling featuring a childhood abuse survivor and a crazy-ass woman who chases him until he finally gives in.

Reread May 2021 - Still 4.5 stars although I lowered the official rating from 5 to 4 stars because the h was a little too over the top with her psycho act for me to suspend my disbelief. Still loved Axel(H) though.

4.5 Stars.

I'm usually not a huge fan of MC books, but this one is fucking amazing. It's safe and full of humor to balance out the tension.

The H is 10/10. He's tortured bc of his past but instead of using that as an excuse to hurt and lash out at others, he's loyal and extremely respectful of boundaries. Like I said, ten out of fucking ten.

(THIS NEXT PART ABOUT THE h IS KINDA SPOILERY SO SKIP IT IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK YET!!!!) The h brings her fair share of excitement to the pages because... drumroll please... she comes from a mafia family?!?! This book is technically a MC + mafia book, and definitely the first one of its kind I've seen. So because of her syndicate background and training, she's not afraid of death and violence. I did think that some of her craziness was OTT but I liked that she had a backbone and she was smart af. You cannot fool this girl so don't even try.

All in all, this book grabbed all of my attention and refused to let go. And I loved it.

I have no idea how this book ended up on my kindle. I don't think I've ever heard of this author much less this book. But there is was. And Amazon swears I purchased it. What the hell, I decided to read it.

Holy heck that was fun as fuck!

Ok, it was a little dark in places. I mean Axle's entire back story was one big bag of angsty torture but at it has come to a point that so many authors have created the super perilous a back stories for some of their tortured heroes that you become inured to it.

And yeah, the book is a REALLY over the top melange of MC biker rivalries, powerful crime families and convoluted betrayals and counter betrayals. But it is the very OTT element that appeals. I can take an OTT plot as long as the characters aren't also a bunch of melodramatic angsters. And these are not.

Sure Axle probably lives in the top 10 percentile of terrible tortured heroes. But he wasn't an angsty wallower. He was just resolute and controlled about it.

And Maya isn't some Mary Sue ingenue. In fact I liked that she was really rather bent. And smart. her entire Derby Girl vibe just delighted me so.

There are some great supporting characters including Sarah/AJ (I missed the first two books of the series so missed some of that back story.) I love how complicated her relationship with Jude is and just how copletely bad ass she is. Sure she's basically Batman, but I'll take it. Drake the tattoo artist was great as comic relief. I found the Also Maya's second generation crime compatriots, though minimal in this book, were intriguing.

I was more invested the MC biker war subplot a lot more than I did Maya's. Although both plots are on a collision course that looks like it will play out in subsequent books. Maya and Axle end up HEA, but the Tarantino-eqsue storyline in the book only ends on a battle won, with the war heating up.

The first time Maya met Axle she was hiding in his vehicle and trying to get away from her murderous brother who had betrayed her family. The second time she met Axle she was roller skating around corpses picking their pockets. When his MC is told to protect her they step up but they have no idea who she is or why she is in such danger.

Maya finds Axle attractive, she sees his scars but to her that shows strength. Deciding she is bunking with him she offers herself freely but Axle is weary of the mysterious woman and when gets a handle on who she is he decides he has to go all in but what happens when their watch ends?

This was darker than most of C.M. Owens books and I thought the characters were much more complex. I loved Maya, she is nuts, blunt, and perfect for broody Axle. I enjoyed every moment of this story definitely one of my favorites by this author. Can't wait to see what is next.
