I’m a sucker for a good paranormal romance and this series is off to a great start! The romance is really good as well.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The Dark Awakening by D.L. Blade is a paranormal vampire thriller that I listened to on audio narrated by Sydnee Fullmer. This is book one in The Chosen Coven Series that does end on a cliffhanger.  Book two is already released, However, It is not on audio yet.

This is the first book of D.L.’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. I liked the twists on Vampires and Witches in this storyline. I look forward to seeing what happens in book two.

Sydnee did a great job narrating and bringing the characters to life.

This was my first time reading this author. Her debut book was awesome! I had won a signed paperback copy through a contest, but decided i couldn't wait and bought a Kindle copy. I read the synopsis and thought it would be something I would enjoy. I especially loved the setting, East greenwich, RI. (I live about 40 minutes away. It takes place there and in Salem, Ma.
Mercy is a young woman, fresh out of high school. She had an experience with her mom which left her uncomfortable with touch, even from those closest to her. The only touch she can seem to handle is the mysterious man who joins her in her dreams. She feels comfortable, and safe around him, something lacking in her daily life. A series of strange events she realizes exactly who and what she is. However exciting that may be, it is short lived and it soon puts the people she loves and herself in danger. She also meets the man in her dreams. She soon realizes that everything and mostly everyone including herself is not what they appear to be. She wonders who, if anyone can she trust. This book kept me guessing, and more than once I found myself asking "Huh???" I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

Witches, werewolves, vampires and throw backs to the Salem witch trails what's not to love?

Mercy has an interesting past, I grew to like her more and more as the story developed.

Can't wait to pick up the second instalment in this series to see her come more into herself and her powers

D.L. Blade makes her writing debut with a bang. The imagination of this author is solidly backed by strong writing, character development, and story telling that constantly keeps the pages turning.
Written from the point of view of Mercy, a strong-willed teenager and recently realized witch; The Dark Awakening is a wild ride that dives into the world of witches, vampires, and werewolves so beautifully intertwined that you forget this is a world of fantasy. Set in modern times in real life places, it is hard to not imagine the possibilities that these characters could be among us.
This book is a great quick read that is captivating and leaves you wanted more, luckily there are two more in this adventure and I cannot wait.

Synopsis: Get ready for a new kind of witch—she’s about to save humanity.

Haunting secrets, witches, vampires, werewolves, love, betrayal, & twists you won’t see coming!

Mercy’s life has devolved into a string of bad events. A brutal beating that nearly stole her life, a dangerous stalker lurking in the shadows, and a car accident, where the man who rescued her disappears right before her eyes.

But this man who she thought was a hallucination, tracks her down at a nearby cove, and claims they were once in love from another time. Another century. But Mercy has no memory of this world he shares, and instinctively doesn’t trust him. He also reveals to her a life-changing secret—she’s an ancient witch, vampires are real, and she's destined to destroy them.

There’s also the troubling discovery that her blood is lusted after by the undead, and a sadistic vampire leader sets his eyes on her, and will stop at nothing until he takes Mercy as his own.

Mercy needs to fight. Fight for her life, fight to discover the truth, fight to remember who—or what—she really is before it’s too late.

Review: This was an ok book for the most part. The book had an interesting plot and the world building was well done. The book seemed very interesting from the get go and the plot was the reason I kept reading the book.

However, the romance and the characters felt really flat and uninteresting. The characters didn’t feel like they were anything more than the paper they were wrote on and nothing really made them stand out from one or the other. The book is also very slow paced.

Verdict: It was an ok read

This book blew me away! The plot was engaging, I could connect well with the characters, and I was compelled to continue reading. I finished this book in literally one sitting, which is something that rarely happens for me.

The first in the Chosen Coven series, I like PNR but this was a little different from others I have read or listened to before, In a good way! I was invested in this from the very start. It’s full of witches, vampires, werewolves and demons. The world building was great, I could imagine I was in the scenes, it has action, adventure, eeriness, mystery men lurking, secrets are revealed and lots of twists and turns. The narrator gave good emotion during the audiobook and she was easy to listen to, her voice was smooth, no faltering, perfect narration.
It was fantastic and I am looking forward to the next book
