A horrifying and equally funny exploitation of the demons the queer community literally faces.

Gross, horrific and romantic! Long, long list of content warnings and the biggest one isn't even recognized by Storygraph: do not read this if you cannot handle bugs, body horror and religious abuse.

Otherwise, this Tingle title is a visceral romp from abuse to self actualization. As a queer person raised in a religious household I felt seen. It is a cathartic and horrifying feeling. 8/10 highly recommended!

Read this shortly after finishing Cuckoo which I loved for completely different reasons. I was worried about reading two books about gay conversion camps back to back would make me choose a winner of this setting but I found them both to be effective in their own ways.

Camp Damascus is unquestionably the lighter read between the two but I loved Damascus’ for its cozy atmosphere, romance, and conversation on religion. I loved the relationship between Rose and Willow and how it was explicit that just because it was a queer relationship it was not 100% perfect. I loved how those challenges were highlighted as strengths of the relationship and testaments to its normalcy.
