This book tells a truly amazing and heartwarming story. I got emotional multiple times (which never happens when I read). 6 stars.

A pen pal exchange that lasted for years and changed two family’s’ lives forever. This was a remarkable story and I was particularly fascinated by how Caitlin - the young American from Pennsylvania, took a simple spark of curiosity and let it shape her into such an inspiring human being.
On some level, I started thinking maybe all the feel-good vibes I had should be questioned as yet another white savior story. But then I decided that was me putting a spin on the this true life experience that obviously deeply affected not only Martin but his entire family - I think the generosity Caitlin showed impacted her family as well. I think there was enormous emotional and personal development occurring for both main characters and their families collectively.

There is no other way to put it, this is one of my favorite books ever!!!! None of us really know poverty like Martin does, and we can never know. One letter seems small, good things come in small packages, or in this case envelopes.
