Nie ma ekspozycji, eksplikacji, szczegółów, chronologii. Są subtelne wskazówki, groza, zawrotne tempo i piękne, pospieszne obrazy. Przemilczane znaczy więcej niż wypowiedziane. Nagły skok na głęboką wodę i równie nagłe wynurzenie.

androgynous, surreal, a homey dystopia the answer to which is and will always be “create”

Someone described this book as, “radically androgynous,” which I think is the perfect way to captivate it’s overall theme. At times I did find myself confused as to what “They” were or if it was a collection of short stories or a continued story from a genderless narrator, and so I would love to re-read this in the future. They is a dystopian tale of a group trying to erase memories and destroy personal attachments that I really enjoyed navigating through each page.

Many horror books I read don't successfully convey the omnipresent fear and dread this novella captures. Sometimes you see Them approaching, though not many words are exchanged. Violence is a casual and easy thing. You don't know when They'll strike, but you can rest assured that something or someone will be taken from you. This is almost slice-of-life horror, if such a thing exists. I don't really like the vignette format of this novella, but the way I was kept on my toes made this worth the read.
