To start out with I hate spiders. Really hate spiders. This book made me hate them even more.

The writing was amazing and made me think that this could happen. I'm usually just ok with created feature books. This however was a fun/terrifying ride around the world with flesh eating spiders.
*shutter*.

Most horror books and movies don't scare me or even creep me out but this book sure did even though I am not scared of spiders .

This book has a few different point of views but it wasn't confusing at all. It is very well written and even though it creeped me out I just couldn't stop reading.

I highly recommend this book.

I thought this was going to be a nice solid 4 stars. I really enjoyed it. The characters, the story pacing, and the concept were all strong. And spiders! Man, spiders are scary as heck! It loses a star for not really having an ending. It comes suddenly and it's established before you even get there that it is not going to be the ending. Not really.

So, it felt more like I was reading the first half of a book (a good book, mind you) than a complete work or even the complete first installment in a series.

All said, it was worth my time and it's worth yours if you like nature beats up humanity type tales. I plan to read the "rest of the book" when I get to part 2. Hopefully it will have an ending.

This book was wild. Felt more like a disaster movie than a horror story.

Read for Review (Publisher Provided)
Overall Rating: 4.00
Story Rating: 4.25
Character Rating: 3.75

Audio Rating: 4.50 (not part of the overall rating)

NOTE: The packaging for The Hatching is amazing and so is the included map. If you want the full experience get the physical book!!

Tweet (longer) Length Review: The Hatching was creepy crawly twisty fun that I don't recommend reading before bed (unless you don't need a full night of rest)! It is a little horror, little outbreak, and whole lot of "OMG please say NOTHING is crawling on me". SPIDER APOCALYPSE is coming at ya!

Audio Thoughts:
Narrated By George Newbern / Length: 8 hrs and 46 mins

George really brought this alive! I would even bump my rating up to 4.25 because he made me like the characters slightly more. This was a great audio match!

Such a dude book. Story doesn’t even really resolve itself instead setting up for a sequel. The writing is quick and well written though.
