I'm disappointed; I wanted so much more from this book! The cover is one of the most beautiful covers I have ever seen (turquoise and blue are my favorite colors) and the idea of this story sounded very interesting to me.

I managed to read about 100 pages and then I realized it had just put me in a reading slump. I could not continue with the story or any other book for that matter. I didn't read anything for days until I just made myself pick it up and finish it. The last 100 pages of the book were more interesting than the first 300 but still I didn't love it. I read the rest of this book from 3am to 6am just to say I got trough it.

So yes. I finished it. No, I didn't love it, nor did I hate it. But the super gorgeous cover deserves a star.

I have loved Lauren Kate since I read Fallen years ago, so when I saw that she was writing another series I was really excited. I will say that I absolutely love this cover, it draws you to it, and it did the same for me when I first saw it. But I will say that the cover does not really depict what goes on inside the story, and I really wish that the "girl on the cover with a dress" thing would stop on YA covers because it does not help with understanding the plot.

I am not going to say that I loved this book, because I didn't. The writing, as per usual was amazing and flawless. Lauren has a way of grabbing your attention and keeping you interested, and she did just that with this book. I loved the main character, she was spunky and damaged with the death of her mother. I also loved her relationship with her Father and Stepmother, because it was strained and a little infuriating to read, and I loved that.

I also liked the love interest and how complicated it was. It was not the typical love story because one, there were two interest, and because both boys were shrouded in mystery. I did not know who to chose or who was better, but I also knew that both of these boys were hiding something and I really wanted to know what that was.

Now, the biggest issue for me was the plot itself and the "reveal" at the end. Although an interesting story, to me it was way to out there because it made no sense to me. Her tears will rise the lost city of Atlantis? I mean seriously? I think I laughed when I read that because it just seemed so out of the norm. I am all for taking a myth and messing with it to make a great new story, but for me, Atlantis is one of the cursed ones that does not work as a retelling because it just doesn't make plausible sense.

Overall, I enjoyed the story up until the end when everything was revealed. I felt like the Atlantis part ruined my overall feel of the book and I honestly do not know if I will read the rest of this series. But you never know, my feeling may change.

This entire book could be put into three chapters max. Literally just following around the main character as she does shit all until the last few where she actually does something about the original plot.

I listened to this on audiobook while doing other tasks and still believe i wasted my time on this novel. Please dont make the same mistake.

Thanks to the publisher and to Netgalley, for providing me with this copy in exchange of an honest review.

I din't even finish it, but this book was not a good one. Believe me.

Well, the main female character was spineless to say the least and the male main character was just creepy. Jesus, what was that first scene with him catching her tear about? That was honestly so creepy I had to stop reading and breathe deeply.

I don't know what else to say. Insta-love? Yeah, that was what the main couple was all about.

I didn't like it a bit.

In my entire life, I have never read such a depressing book.
In fact, no books had ever come close to be as depressing as Teardrop and I proudly say that I actually finished this book. I had never felt more like a champ.
After dnf-ing Fallen I decided to give Lauren Kate a chance because you can’t judge an author with only one book right? I have several low rating books that I came to love so maybe I would love this book. See? I’m generous!
I absolutely hate hate hate everything in this book. In the hands of a more skilled author, the story might become a legend. In fact, it has an interesting premise. A girl with the power to raise Atlantis? Wow.
While reading this book, I was so irritated by Eureka ever since I read the first page and I actually made a list of terrible, terrible things she had done and why she’s such a huge disappointment which I have never done before Teardrop. The last time I considered a book a huge disappointment, I thought I would never encounter another book like that. I considered that book the worst novel I’ve ever read. My dislike of this book have surpassed that of that book it actually made me feel depressed for real. As of right now, I’m holding myself back from writing a series of curses and swear words meant for this book because I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND? WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED?

THE PLOT
The plot is so bland my friends. Like literally NOTHING happened in the book. NOTHING. The whole book, I have to cope myself with the very very annoying Eureka. She whines all the fucking time and all she does is complain and being ungrateful. And yes, that’s pretty much what happened in the book. When the plot started to get interesting by the very last pages, it was already too late to pique my interests.

EUREKA
I couldn’t begin to explain myself how I don’t like her. I want to kill her for real. It was such a tremendous terrifying experience.

THE WRITING
Actually I kind of like Lauren Kate's writing style. It's detailed and it allows us to imagine the scenes thoroughly but I have some problems especially with the plot and the annoying characters

LET ME BREAK THEM DOWN FOR YOU

• The entire fucking plot is already explained in the synopsis. You could learn of the whole story by reading the GODDAMN SYNOPSIS. If you read this book’s synopsis, yes that’s pretty much what happened with a little explanation here and there and even then, it was already obvious.

• Dear Lauren Kate, I seem to notice that while writing this book, you seem to think that you can fool your readers. You drop all about pretty much what happened but when we came to the big reveal, I wasn’t even surprised or feel any sort of emotion like it was practically in the prologue and the first chapters?

• EUREKA. Oh my God this little piece of shit never cried for YEARS but she cried when Ander hit her motherfucking car? I don’t understand? If I were her, I would kick his crotch or something or call 911 or slap him or BE ANGRY wtf. She's such a crybaby and I can'e believe this is the girl that NEVER CRIED for YEARS.

Save the world or save the girl. No matter how much you love someone, if you were to choose between saving the entire seven billion human beings and the entirety of God’s creations and the love of your life, YOU CHOOSE SAVING THE WORLD. I know some of you Lauren Kate fans out there would think: But its love. You’ll do anything for love. We all sound like Anna from Frozen at this point. I mean, oh yes, its love but its selfish don’t you think? Even if you do save the girl, what if she ended up dead in the end? And I don’t think you want to live in a world where its just the two of you

• THE TEAR SCENE: If you have read the book, you know which scene I’m talking about. We’re talking about a COMPLETE STRANGER who just HIT YOUR CAR and you allowed him to do that to you? Idk but if I were you I would run like hell. It’s not sweet. It hints that both Eureka and Ander had serious mental issues. They don’t act like normal people I’M SCARED?

• Eureka is so fucking rude. Like I said, you could see her complain in almost every single page and she is rude to everyone? Even her therapist who was trying to help her?

”You will wake up at forty with no husband, no children, and no career if you don’t learn to engage with the world”
”The desire to translate some old book seems fruitless” Landry said. “To pin your hopes on a new connection with your mother now might be very painful”

What is this? Apparently Lauren Kate made the therapist an ass so that Eureka is the angel because I could never imagine a fucking THERAPIST speaking as if she tried to BULLY HER PATIENTS.

Too many unnecessary descriptions. Like Lauren Kate describes even the not important characters in painstaking detail it added to the list of reasons why this book is boring.

THE BROOKS AND ANDER SCENE I don’t understand? It seems to me that Eureka wasn’t even mad at Ander for randomly threatening Brooks when Brooks didn’t even do anything? If I were you I would be fucking SCARED and you know what Eureka did? Oh yes HAVE SOME CHILL

BROOKS AND EUREKA KISS SCENE
”This is—“ he said.
She nodded. “So right”

I FUCKING CRINGED. THIS IS THE MOST CRINGEWORTHY SCENE IN THE HISTORY OF CRINGEWORTHY BOOK SCENES EVER LIKE YOU SOUND LIKE TWO FIFTH GRADES KISSING IS THAT SERIOUSLY THE ONLY THING YOU SAY? FUCK EVERYTHING FUCK YOU.

”It made no sense that a ridiculous place like Neptune’s still existed and Diana had been swept away”
WHAT? You’re blaming your mother’s death on a FUCKING RESTAURANT? GURL IT TOTALLY MAKES SENSE. It seems like what Eureka wants is for all restaurants to be closed after her Mother’s death.

• Apparently Lauren Kate has an unusual taste in book characters. After reading Fallen (which I didn’t finish because Luce is basically Eureka, annoying) I finally came to the conclusion that there would always be her classic STALKER BOYS. I don’t understand what do you see in them? No matter how hot someone is, I would be scared as hell if they stalk me all the damn time. Apparently Luce and Eureka love these men and even LOVED them at first sight. WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU SEE IN THEM?

It was such a happy memory that it made Eureka want to die
I understand your struggle and willing to assist if you want to die srsly.

CHEESY OVERLOAD
Did he… did Ander like her? Could he see past the sarcasm, to the mosaic of the broken girl inside? Had he been thinking about her the way she’d been thinking about him?
Okay. YOU MET THIS GUY FOR LIKE WHAT? TWICE? AND YOU FELL SO HARD FOR HIM

• Listen up, I’ve read many insta-love stories and while insta-love is so not my type. There are some insta-love cases that I ended up loving such as Cress and Thorne, some other contemporary novels, etc. But the romance between Eureka and Ander is just too cheesy and stupid.
Her breath stuck in her throat. A hug was the last thing she’d expected. Even more surprising: it felt wonderful
Eureka suddenly felt she was in the safest place on earth and she knew she had been wrong about him. Holding on to Ander was so easy that not holding on to him felt unthinkable
Unexpectedly, the phrase I love you sprinted to the tip of her tongue. She swallowed hard to keep it back. it was the trauma talking, not real emotion. She hardly knew him

YOU EVEN REALIZED IT

• Then there comes the Eureka and Ander kiss scene and at this point, I couldn’t think of anything good anymore. All I wanted to do was finish the damn book so I could read the ending and read other books that actually has quality.

• When Eureka finally cried her heart out, I couldn’t help but
JESUS CHRIST THE ENTIRE WORLD IS FLOODING AND HER FAMILY WERE SO OKAY OKAY EVEN THOUGH THEY JUST WATCHED RHODA DIED AND THEY WERE STUCK IN A BUBBLE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE AND LITERALLY HAD ZERO IDEA WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING BUT THEY ALL SEEMED PRETTY CHILL???

• Many things aren’t explained and I would love to know how Ander actually have gills

I’m so done.

The majority of what I read needs belief to be suspended and I was able to do that until the end if the story. Then I thought this is unbelievable and not in a good way.

What I liked - the lost continent of Atlantis is a unique topic along with the setting in Louisiana, she has a best friend who is black (YA novels rarely have black characters), characters go to a Catholic school but aren't wealthy or snobby

What I didn't care for - the main character's name is Eureka,
