This is a really well written book, but it's suuuuupppper depressing. I didn't know anything about it going in, and it was just really emotionally hard to get through.

I kept reading it because I just wanted to know that the tragedy and pain would be over, and the characters would end up somewhere better. Which seems like a silly reason to read a book. But there you go.

I can't say I'd really recommend anyone else read this, because it's just really heavy and heartbreaking. But having made it through to the other side, it really does have good lessons, and a good ending, so I'm satisfied.

I liked this book. I'll probably forget that I read it because it wasn't necessarily... massively heart touching or anything but I enjoyed the read and the author's writing style. I'm also glad that I bought it... but just at a library book sale for $1.

"Although they own a farm in Prairie Center, Alice and Howard Goodwin are still treated as outsiders by the townspeople. A tragic accident occurs on the farm, which sets in motion a devastating string of events, which will change their lives for ever and turn their paradise into a living nightmare." (From Amazon)

A single incident can change people. A great story.

I did not find this as sad as many others did. I did, however, find it poorly written and the storyline hard to follow. It felt like a good first attempt of trying to emulate Joyce Carol Oates.

This book took me two full months to read because I was bored out of my mind. Still, I kept picking it up because I was intrigued enough to want to know how it ended. The ending wasn’t at all worth it. Don’t waste your time on this!

I will say that the writing was good on a technical level, but the plot was dragged on for about 200 pages more than it should have. I truly hope this is the worst book I’ll read this year.
