im a sucker for love stories that feature food as the thing that brings two people together - this book made me so hungry lol. my only issue was that i felt the discussions of race and identity needed more nuance; making a bigoted yoga mum the central antagonist seemed too obvious and predictable. overall though this was a pleasure to listen to and the voice of nesto was perfect.

I loved this debut novel from Adriana Herrera, about a food truck owner falling in love with a librarian. The romance between Nesto (driven, passionate, workaholic, confident) and Jude (contemplative, ambitious in his own way to improve the services offered at his library, and recovering from a traumatic religious upbringing) is well done, showing how they learn to lean on each other.
The conflict at a personal and societal level was realistic and engaging, and made me one click the rest of the series as it became available. Adriana Herrera has become an instant-buy author for me.

I really did enjoy this book, but I'm not at all surprised it's a debut.
The dialogue is really rocky in the beginning, and it gets better! All of it improves! It's just that first push!
Nesto and Jude are really sweet together, and I love the conflict that was strung together. It was nice for them to have a common enemy, even if how she came in and out of the picture was a bit sporadic.
I wish that Nesto had to grovel harder. I love a grovel.
