This book was fine, but Jennifer sounds exhausting, and I'm not really convinced that it's this effortless to be "chic." She sort of reminds me of a California version of Gretchen Rubin, but less pragmatic, with a dash of Marie Kondo thrown in for sparking joy.

Also, she talks about taking a family trip to La Brea Tar Pits and looking at the dinosaur fossils...BUT one thing that is reiterated over and over again at La Brea is that it's too young for dinosaurs. There are NO dinosaur fossils at La Brea. So did the family actually go? Was she busy with two kids and forgot what she saw? Did no one fact check anything in this book? (Which seriously makes me wonder about the quality of the recipes...it's one thing if I follow a recipe and I ruin it...but it's extra frustrating to discover that it's just a bad recipe.)

While this book had a lot of good recommendations and ideas, it was no Lessons from Madame Chic. It didn't have the story to drive it as the first one did and it took me a long time to get through it. I'm glad I finished it, though, and have made not of a few specific ideas. I also think it is a good reference book for things like music, drinks, skin care brands, flower arrangements, etc...

Don't even attempt to listen to the audiobook, though! I'm pretty sure it was read by a computer and it's excruciating!

I went to a bookstore with Enrique. He was looking for the new Neal Stephenson's book called "Seveneves". While he was browsing through shelves with Katya in his arms, I went to the nearest corner of the bookstore, sat in a chair and lazily looked through a couple of books right next to me. "At home with Madame Chic" caught my attention. This is a book written by an American lady, who went to live in Paris a decade ago. She lived with a parisian family, and her hostess was this really chic lady, who took care of her home and family with ease. In this book Jennifer implements knowledge that she gained from that experience in Paris to create a nice routine for the day, so that the mundane tasks don't seem unbearable. She shares some ideas for morning, lunch, and dinner time that can make your day so much better.
I had fun reading this book. It is written from a point of view of a stay at home mom, which I can greatly relate to, and it provides some useful info. It even has some playlists for morning, lunch and dinner time. Fun.

A fun and easy book. I actually listened to it on audiobook since it was available before the eBook was (via the public library). It had great tips on how to cultivate a better home, both with the material/physical as well as the members of the family. The author did dive into non-home tips (such as bedtime routines -- exfoliating tips and whatnot) that I felt should've been reserved for a separate book but it was still enjoyable nonetheless. I didn't agree with everything but it gave me enough to consider for my own life. 4 stars out of 5.
