What I loved: The relationship between Daniel and Jillian, the sex scenes, the premise was unique

What I would change: This book was waaaaay too long. Also, parts of the book bored me.

Trigger warning: Bullying, grief, suicide, death

Wow, this book was an emotional rollercoaster! One page I'm laughing so hard and five pages later I'm crying. There were a couple parts where the book started to feel like it was going on a little too long, but it still made me want to keep turning the pages to see what happened next.

I really liked that Jillian and Daniel didn't have insta-love, it made it feel more real and relatable in a way. I also enjoyed watching Jillian come to life throughout the book.

I recommend Ghosted to anyone that enjoys rom-coms. It is laugh out loud funny, will pull on your heartstrings, and it has a steamy romance with a swoonworthy ghost.

Ever had a bad date? Try 100 of them, then having a hot shirtless ghost going with you to them.

Okay. I need someone to read this book and talk about it with me cause I am dying.
Jillian is a fantastic FMC. She is what is missing in many romance books. She is quirky, perfectly imperfect, and extremely relatable. She is not a cardboard cutout or copy and paste of the supposed dream girl. Don't get me wrong, I still eat those romance books up as well, Jillian just feels more human. It allows you to walk in her shoes and experience what she is feeling throughout this entire story.
Daniel is exactly what you want in a ghost boyfriend. He isn't afraid to speak his mind, his sense of humor shines through, and he is not ashamed to be known as a sex symbol.
When you finally get to see their relationship blossom in many ways, it is beautiful, heartfelt, and exactly what every hopeless romantic dreams.

Not going to lie, the ghost sex scene was not it. It felt very awkward (partly cause our FMC is a little awkward) but it just made me uncomfortable. Granted I did listen to this on audiobook so that may have affected this.

The plot is very interesting, I was intrigued by the mystery of how Daniel appear at Jillian’s apartment as a ghost and why only Jillian could see him. It was funny and strange seeing how they interact with each other.

I keep reading until the end because I wanted to know the explanation to what happen to Daniel and whether they’ll end up happily together since it’s impossible for a ghost and human to have a romantic relationship…

But, I really like the secondary characters, like Fran, Jillian’s BFF – Serena and also Jillian’s co-worker at the office whose really liven up the story.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of Jillian at first, but I slowly started to understand her as the story goes.
Then there's the mysterious Daniel. He is the reason why I like the second half part of the story since I got to know his background story.

As much as I like the plot idea of this book, there are some things I wish differently.
I wish the progress of the romance between Jillian and Daniel wasn’t so rushed, it felt like an insta-love which I’m not a huge fan of.
Moreover, the spicy scenes between the two of them while Daniel was still a ghost was really weird….

The first half part and the second half part feels like two different books, the changes to the main characters were quite abrupt. It would be nice if it was divided into two separate books instead of packing it into one thick book.

Overall, it’s a pretty enjoyable read and I find this plot idea really interesting.
Even so, I’m still unsure of what really happen with Daniel even after reading the second epilogue. It should have clarified something but instead it raised some questions for me.
Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to read the next book in this series featuring Serena – Jillian’s best friend!

TW: Suicide mention
This novel was tough to rate if i am being quite honest. It started off really solid. I liked Jillian a lot. She was nerdy and she was a writer and she was falling for a ghost (Danny). Really cool premise. There were quite a few issues with this novel, and are the reason I will not be recommending this read. Firstly, there is sort of this allusion to her being plus size. She’s always talking about herself being curvy and honestly even the way she talks about herself, you think… maybe just maybe I am getting some representation here… but that is not the case. Even on the cover she is thin, not even curvy one bit and the novel never really gives a direct answer but more a few hints. That in itself was not a good enough reason for me to give the novel such a poor rating - i know, but just wait.
Jillian is also VERY two dimensional… all she talks about is Star Trek. Seriously, I am a Star Wars, Disney and Marvel girly (including tattoos) and I have OTHER INTERESTS TOO! She was way too simple. I am honestly just baffled that this was published… Also… She refers to herself as a “Trekker” when most people call themselves “Trekkie”. It really pulled me out of the book as someone who grew up in the comic book/sci-fi universe. This is me being nitpicky because this book got on my nerves already.
Before I really get into the hate rant, I did want to mention something I really liked about this novel before I hate on it. I absolutely loved the storyline about Jillian and Michael. It was probably the most real and the most beautiful part of the novel. Jillian looses her best friend Michael to suicide… and how this has affected her is just wow. That aspect was so beautifully written it almost feels like this should have been the primary story of the novel. Not the ghost romance. The emotions were raw and real and relatable. I really felt and understood Jillian here… but only in that instance.

So at first they think that Daniel is dead. Which makes a lot of sense because he is a ghost. Then when Daniel’s ghost disappears and Jillian sees him IRL she thinks maybe its him dying in the future and his ghost coming into the past? So here is where they start to loose me. Now science wise suuuuure maybe but even in how the dialogue is presented between Jillian and her Science bestie it is soooo farfetched (even for a paranormal type story) its like they didn’t even try to make it make sense. Now at this point Daniel doesn’t recognize Jillian or the times they spent together (or the ghost sex because… yeah there was ghost sex) because it technically hasn’t happened yet (?). So, like the rational person she is because she “knows him” and “loves him” she starts disrespecting his boundaries and STALKING him like that is a totally normal and justifiable thing because “she fell for him when he was a ghost”.

Oh not part of the main plot or anything, but two co-workers who have never dated, kissed or fucked get married on a whim at the end of the novel and it really just made the whole dumpster fire of a novel so goddamn worst.
Avoid this book. You’re welcome.

4.25/5 stars
2/5 spice

I'm just gonna say right now that the biggest reason I loved this book was because of the Star Trek references (hello fellow Trekkies/Trekkers 👋🏼). Hands down would not be able to rate this book less than 3 stars for that reason alone. However, luckily for me, it was also a fun story that had me wondering how on earth these two were going to be together in the end.

Tropes:
Paranormal/Sci-fi romance
Ghost hero & only she can see him
Billionaire MMC
Journalist FMC
Star Trek Fandom
Virgin FMC
Trauma/healing
Soulmates vibes
Insta-love
Angsty
Single POV

Although this story takes place in present-day times, the paranormal aspect with Daniel being a ghost gives this a cool twist. I automatically thought of the movie Just Like Heaven with Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo (which is a big reason I wanted to read this book because I loved that movie). The plot does follow a similar structure to the movie but also brings its own uniqueness with the characters' personalities. I loved how Jillian grew in the story and was able to heal from her grief with the help of Daniel. They both needed and helped each other but in different ways and at different times in the story...

I will admit that for people who are expecting a pure contemporary romance, they will not like the insta-love of this book. But with those who know paranormal romance, fated mates and soulmates are the bread and butter of that genre. So it didn't annoy me the way it normally would if I wasn't expecting it.

As far as the side characters, I didn't really get super invested in them as I usually do with other romances. But that's OK... a few were memorable and had their fun personalities, but my focus was more on the MCs and trying to see how they'll end up together.

Overall, I highly recommend to all my fellow romance loving Star Trek fans. Also, paranormal romance fans will like this one, too. The spice is low and more focused on the emotion than actual descriptions, but was still open door. I was able to listen to the book and thoroughly enjoyed how the narrator brought each character to life. And that second epilogue... it was just wonderful 😚🤌🏽

Reading with both my eyes and ears for this one. I also did that with French Holiday by the same author, and enjoyed it.
The narration was great, clear and easy to follow, and the story has sucked me right in!

Jillian has just moved into a new studio apartment, sight unseen. The small size, skeevy mirroring of every surface and a few other details have her down, but between location and price she’s still willing to give it a go.
Daniel - the half naked guy that appears after she’s safely locked away inside, and then *literally* disappears as she tries to fend him off with a bat - was more than she bargained for.

Our ghostly friend Daniel thinks his unfinished business is saving her job and finding the cripplingly unable to speak to men Jillian love. Unfortunately, even though it works in that she starts to fall for someone, it’s not someone she thinks she can have (it’s him)

I don’t want to give too much of the plot away, but I’ll tell you that when Daniel disappears? That’s when the story got Really Interesting to me. Unraveling what happened to him and how she could find her way back to being together with him was a trip.
This book was a little mysterious in a timey-wimey sci-fi way, dramatic and a whole lot of fun. There were a couple times I was seriously questioning how a HEA could come out of it all, but I shouldn’t have doubted!

Thanks to NetGalley, WW Crown and IBPA for the ARC!

"What does it mean to have a ghost as a friend?"

Ghosted had me hooked immediately. I absolutely loved how charismatic of a character Daniel was, I fell for him right away. There were many ups and downs throughout the book which only makes the ending more satisfying.

As someone who has never watched Star Trek, there were a few too many references, especially in the beginning, but they seemed to town down fairly quickly.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sarah Ready, and W.W. Crown Books for a digital arc of Ghosted.
