Eric Idle is a fantastic narrator (so long as he never, ever does an Indian accent like that again...). But am I the only one who spends half the book going, "wow, Wonka's kind of a jerk?"
Also the song about how kids watch TV and need to go read more books was a bit heavy-handed.

Sooo... this just got suddenly racist in a way I did not remember from when I was seven and last read it. Seriously disappointed and DNFing. One extra star for the audiobook narrators, who are very French and very amusing. I will be looking elsewhere for French practice.

A lovely, simple children's story that delights all ages.
We listened to the audiobook read by Douglas Hodge. The only negative aspect is the volume changes, from the general narration (tends to be quieter) to some of the characters shouting (very loud) which meant I was constantly adjusting the volume. But both adults and the 6-year old enjoyed listening.

Met ontzettend veel plezier voorgelezen. Dit boek deed me dromen als kind, en het doet me nog altijd dromen. Mogelijk ligt in dit boek ook wel de oorsprong van mijn chocoladeverslaving ...
Leve Roald Dahl.
Leve Roald Dahl.

Always have loved this story since I was young, so finally reading the book feels so nostalgic!
Enjoyed every bit, seems like I was the same 10-year old then enjoying this.
As a grown up, I have also come to realized and loved how this book also tackles privilege.
Charlie’s life with his family, the way it was described and narrated, was just sad but also a reality for some. So the golden ticket was like their literal ticket to see more of what life can offer.
Been also re-watching the movie adaption of this, just a comfort story of mine! I love and miss being a kid, lol.
