I needed something quick, easy, and mindless to read and the Virgin River series fits the bill. Whispering Rock flowed well and didn't feel too in your face with new characters. I really liked the author's ability to move time along quickly, she didn't waste pages on mundane daily updates.

This book is a little more disjointed than the first two but I still enjoyed it.

This reads exactly as if it were written to be a show on the Hallmark channel. There's a cast of characters who live in Virgin River and each volume focuses on a couple, in this case Mike and Brie.

The world of the series is black and white. The good people are earnest, strong, beautiful, and smart. The men are big and the women are small. Aspects of the characters are a throw-back to another era: there are 'women's' jobs and 'men's' jobs and the women say things like 'my man' and vice versa.

It's just all too pretty and perfect for me. And yes there are bad guys and some bad things happen. But sadly, the plot is always completely predictable. I guess it would be a fine read if I didn't want to think at all, but then I get growly about the old-fashioned gender roles and it keeps me from enjoying it as simply fluff.

Cover: Pretty, relatively nondescript.
Narrator: She adapts her style well to the style of the book.
Hogwarts Sorting Hat: They are both Gryffindors (although I think Mike has some Hufflepuff tendencies)

Themes: small town, outdoors, northern California, rape, drugs

So, so good. Another wonderful entry in the Virgin River series. This series is so addictive. I love this town and all the people who live there. I love that she writes strong women (I love Brie) and strong men as well. I love her writing style.

After seeing Mike on the Netflix show, and also meeting him briefly in the previous books, I knew his story would be interesting, and it sure was!!!

Mike felt like a hopeless romantic to me, and as soon as he was injured I felt he needed to dive a little deeper into himself, and that's what he did. He figured out what he wanted to do, and that a small town like Virgin River, and his friends that are his family, was all he really needed. Brie on the other hand had to learn to trust again, and learn that she was strong just like she had always knew she was. She rebuilt herself, and with the help of others she learned what she wanted out of life as well.

This story was cute, and exactly what I needed. A heartfelt story that followed family, friends, love, loss, and learning that some of the most important things in ones life can be the simple things. Life doesn't have to be so complicated, and being surrounded by those you love can be exactly the right thing to help you get through anything
