My brother gave us a beautiful copy of this book for Christmas. It was so much fun to read together and look at the artwork and interactive pieces. The boys and I really enjoyed the first 5 stories. The last 2 stories did not interest us as much but still a great read aloud overall. I was surprised at how engaged the kids were considering this was written in the 1800's.

So… the first half of this is the jungle book we all know, love, and expect. Then the rest of the book goes into like short stories that have nothing to do with the jungle book.

One story is about seals. So I really don’t know how that even come close to the jungle.

The mongoose story was also good.

The elephant one at the end though. I think I zoned out cause I really have no idea what happened in it.

I never realized that this was a collection of stories rather than a continuous narrative. I enjoyed these stories for the most part-the ones I enjoyed were 4 stars, and the ones I didn't were more like 2. Mowgli and his adventures were great, and I loved the story of Rikki-Tikki Tavi, but some of the others I could have done without. My biggest gripe was when Man entered the story, things got violent and generally the animals had a rough go of it-something I generally don't handle very well.

I recommend this book to young readers as well as experienced readers, these stories are diverting and generally a pretty light read.

Really fascinated by Kipling's writing style! His classic Jungle Book story really intrigued me. This edition also included short stories such as the white seal and Rikki tivi tavi.
