This was such an engrossing read, I started the book and couldn’t put it down. All the twists and turns were awesome. I did not see the ending coming. Loved this book.

This plot of this book was suspiciously similar to verity...still good though

This book was so similar to Verity that I don't even feel like I can fairly give it a star rating. Freida McFadden has said multiple times that she was writing this before Verity came out and she isn't thrilled about being accused of stealing the story. It's hard to know what to believe for sure, though, when the similarities are coming at you from every direction. Yes, the ending was different. The books are not identical. But having read Verity first, this felt almost like a retelling but with a different spin.
However, I do feel it's worth the read. I'm just not sure how to rate it...I think if I had not already read Verity and loved it, I would have been far more impressed by this book. But it's not fair to rate this one lower just because I read the other one first.
All that being said, I will pick this author up again! I enjoyed her writing style and storytelling and am pretty confident one of her other books will be a better fit for me :)

I feel like the author just kept throwing in 'twists' to see how far she could take it. The main character's inner monologue was annoying and obnoxious. Her back story was as dumb as the rest of the book and I didn't care what happened to her at all. The whole thing was just not good.

I always enjoy her books. They are fast reads and a great cleanser. This one was no different. Yes, I recognized the similarities between it and Verity, but I don't care. It is just a fun read and I like trying to figure out the twist. As usual, I guessed wrong -- or mostly wrong, some of it I figured out. But I guess if you accuse everyone, at some point you are right. LOL

Like other reviews have said, it's exactly like Verity with a couple of twists added. I still enjoyed it.

It reads as a middle grades adapted version of Verity. Plot is the same. The writing is very simplistic, as if written for young readers. And sooooo many plot holes. How has the author not been sued?! I guess there are a few differences at the end, but the similarities throughout are too blatant to be coincidental.
