ok

It was an ok story line. I figured it out way before it was said. I did love all the characters though.

This book was the first one for me from Victoria Helen Stone. I love that it was told in dual POV and timeframe--though that made it a little slow to start for me.

We start in 1985 when Donna realizes she is pregnant after an affair with a married man, Michael, that was supposed to be casual. Michael he promises to divorce his wife and take care of Donna and the baby. Even though there was an alleged affair with a waitress and continued broken promises, Donna tries to give him a chance. A newspaper article puts things into place and Donna accuses Michael of murder.

Lauren's Dad (Michael) was exonerated for the murder and she moved in with him and her grandmother at age 10. Now in the present, Lauren has gone through a break up and seizes the opportunity to move into this home on her Dad's land and renovate it to match her style and needs. It is apparent that Lauren's relationship with her mother to be strained because Donna had never admitted that she was wrong for accusing Michael after his exoneration.

It is a bumpy ride as we learn more about what happened all those years ago--was Donna just bitter about things and accused Michael or murder to get back at him? Are the renovations the right thing to do? What will she find?

Thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Picked this book by chance just based on synopsis. Good multiple POV storyline, as well as, past/present storyline. Might try another by this author.

Was going to be a solid read until I realized I knew the ending the entire time-- assuming that it was too obvious..... meh

3.5 Stars- the twist in the story was interesting but wasn't as well as written as I would like- too many threads to pull

This story is a thriller + women story.

The story follow Lauren and her strangled relationship with her mom and her relationship with her dad and grandma, also follows Donna's (Lauren's mom) during her youth year, also the story that lead to the actual events.

The "drama" goes on a strange way because I am not sure if I liked it or not, it feels like the story goes slow until we are almost done reading and realize how much happens on the story.

This also reminds me about what moms says about how they do things for their kids and how they could never understand...

I like it, give it a shot.

Great read… super lack luster and anti climatic ending. I feel robbed. I had such fun reading this… only for the ending to be as flat as a pancake. *sigh*

This was good, though I felt it could have really played up the suspense by fleshing out some more incidents at the ranch. I never really felt scared for Lauren and I would have liked that to have worked better. Donna’s story did have me on edge for a bit, and carrying that over better to Lauren’s story would have been great. I didn’t really get much of a connection to any of the characters apart from Donna for a bit.

3.5 stars, rounded up because I really like this author
