very very video game heavy, i love the implementation of the video games because it helps put the story together in a different way i normally would
the switching of povs were a bit hard to follow and i had to reread a couple parts
i finished the book in one day, took about 4-5 hours of reaidng
the elements of being raised as an asian and in familiar areas made this book easier to understand
i felt empathetic to all the characters for different reasons, for marx not being a designer but still being helpful, for sadie for bearing a lot on herself and being a female and having imposter syndrome, for sam not being able to speak up for himself
i would reread this because i read on a computer and i know that there are elements i probably missed

you have died of dysentry
“What is a game?” Marx said. “It’s tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow. It’s the possibility of infinite rebirth, infinite redemption. The idea that if you keep playing, you could win. No loss is permanent, because nothing is permanent, ever.”

i didn't cringe or want to die while reading this and that's huge for a contemporary lit fic book. the only character i cared about was sam. sadie was unbearable. marx was marx. sam was my son.

A complex and developed story of friendship over many years. You do not need to be a video gamer or computer pro gamer to enjoy this book, although maybe some of the terminology would make more sense to you. I landed at 4.5 stars and rounded up. This novel did make my top books of 2022, mostly because of how memorable and unique it is. I’ve never read anything like it.
