I don't know if I enjoyed it, but I was GRIPPED. It's was a blend of dark academia, fantasy, a commentary on the upper classes and a murder mystery. Everything bad that could happen to someone happened to the protagonist but with ghosts involved. Also was interesting pacing as it wasn't linear storytelling, especially at the beginning where you're thrown into a weird future telling ritual, where a group of students reach into a man's innards to predict the stock market prices. With NO context. I was very confused at first. Also why do college kids have so much power? Read to find out.

MEU DEUS.

I think the book tackled some difficult issues well and I could identify with some of the complex feelings of the characters. I appreciated the honesty in it.

This book deserves all the hype you may have heard. I’m not normally into fantasy but this is like a grown up version of Harry Potter but with ghosts, murder, and magic. Love the protagonist, supporting characters, and the twists of the plot. Talk about character development too!! This was a good read to get outside of my comfort zone. I feel refreshed and am ready to get into a new read.

Review: OMG I loved this book so much!! The beginning introduced the story and once the action started, it never stopped. I loved seeing passages from the books Alex was studying from interwoven with the story. Alex is a badass for all that she has been through and still wants to keep going. Props to her! Dawes's character development was wonderfully written. I loved the whole plot line with North. I love Leigh Bardugo’s writing style and this was amazing. Would recommend to those who want a dark academia x paranormal fantasy with strong friendships!!!
First off, Darlington is a demon?! Wow, I did not see that coming!! Alex’s ability to speak to ghosts and use their power is crazy!!! Omg!!! Dean Sandow was evil and therefore Alex was right about him. North’s plotline was so engaging and he finally got justice for Daisy’s murder.

This books needs some content warnings. There's domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual humiliation.

This book wasn't at all what I was expecting, but that wasn't a bad thing. It's about secret societies at Yale. The story is well written. The jumps between timelines are well done, though there were a few times I got lost and had to back up to figure out what happened.

The story was very interesting: what if you could see ghosts and no one believed you, so it ruins your life... Until it gets you a free ride to a premier Ivy League University.

The plot moves along at a good pace. I never really felt like it was dragging, but it also wasn't action all the time. There's magic, ghosts, intrigue, humans being humans (for good and bad), college parties, murder investigations. It's a fascinating story.

And the ending? Perfect. I went to the library the minute it opened the next day to get the sequel!

It's a good read, but heed the content warnings. They are in context with the story. They aren't necessary (and I'm increasingly annoyed that they are used as plot devices) but they don't stick out as egregious either.
