A short story that inspires a mix of emotions. The fast food pace of the story and first person narrative lends to the charm of this politically commentary

Bleak and a bit too abstract for me at points, but does a great job of immersing you in the world. Absolutely love the penguin - Misha and Sonya's relationship is my favourite bit!

Not the ending I was expecting. I really wished Misha was sent to Antarctica and that Viktor along with Nina and Sonia had gone to the countryside.

Interesting. I think I missed the dark humor that this book was supposed to have. Kurkov definitely has interesting things to say about loneliness.

Our main character Viktor gets caught up in an interesting job writing obituaries but we soon find out that there is more to it.

He, along with his penguin Misha, live an interesting life in Kiev. And this is my first Ukrainian book - maybe some things were lost in translation. It was very mysterious and eerie which made me want to keep reading. The whole vibe of the book was gray in a vaguely enticing way.
