It was fun to see these 2 characters in the same story, even though I've never read any Jack Reacher books, but the plot was just ok.

I think Lee Child should leave Jack Reacher where he does best ... his own series without any interference from other characters. It may be that I am unfamiliar with the other guy but I didn’t enjoy this until JR appeared and that was too far through for there to be any real JR action. Sorry!

“Okay,” Reacher whispered. “We saw the transaction. So now we need to do this fair but efficient. Agreed?”

“Sure,” Will whispered back.

“Fair in the sense that we limit ourselves to strictly proportionate responses only, strictly in self-defense. Agreed?”

“Sure,” Will whispered again.

“Efficient in the sense we do it first. Before they’re ready.”

“That’s not self-defense.”

“Big picture.”

“Jesus,” Will said.

Amazing book but the ending was missing.... it just stopped where it feels unexplained

Will Trent has been sent to catch a cop killer. A cop killer who is 250 pounds, over 6ft tall and blonde. A cop killer who is working at the Federal Gold Reserves.
Jack Reacher has been sent to investigate a loan shark within the army, in a senior position at the Federal Gold Reserves.
The mysteries deepen as Trent and Reacher form an uneasy alliance.

This was a short book and a quick read/listen.
The main story was interesting, as were the two side plots surrounding the murder of a police detective and what was going on at the gold reserves. Despite being so short, everything was tied up quite nicely.
There was just something about this that didn't quite do it for me. I've never read Karin Slaughter, so it may be her writing style that I'm not used to, but this didn't have any of the same tension as other Reacher books. I thought Will Trent was ok as a character, but he didn't really have anything that made him unique. In contrast, Reacher's background as an MP was woven into the narrative.
I also found some of the phrasing odd - at one point something was described as not being "rocket surgery" which just confused me!
