There were a few times when I read this that I was truly not interested in what was happening, and a few times when I was more interested, but overall I was somewhere in the middle. I liked the characters, but at the beginning I found it hard to get into the plot because I wasn’t entirely sure what was going on. I really liked the few moments Adam and Vic has together.

But overall the one thing I enjoyed the most was probably the fact that Adam read like an average 20/21 year old (I can’t remember exactly his age). Most books I’ve read lately with characters in their very early 20’s come across like their adult adults, like you could me they’re bordering on 30 and I’d believe you. Adam felt more like the 20 years old that I was, old enough to be independent but not living the full adult life either. He didn’t come across immature, but also not like he was ready to start taking it a mortgage. It was really refreshing.

I do plan to read the next book, but I feel like I could also lose interest in this if I leave it go for too long.

There's a good plottwist near the end, but I didn't like the rest of the book. The characters and their motivations missed the mark for me and conflict resolution felt rushed.

Started off strong, Adam in particular has a strong voice for his chapters, and the first several chapters were hitting the tone and kind of world and story I was looking for. I really enjoyed Adam's character pretty much throughout.
The pace for the last 25-30% of it felt a bit off - rushed maybe.
The plot was... okay?
The copaganda around Adam's main love interest put me off.

I picked this up knowing nothing about it and from the first chapter I was hooked! The characters are complex and i think the different pov shows the logic of that characters actions when the other character does not understand. The plot was good, i expected some bits but was suprise by others. I'm excited to read the next one!

Trigger warnings for miscarriage, postpartum, and abuse from a parent.

This novel starts with Robert Binder’s wife, who has been acting strangely, and he must contact the one person who can help. Adam Binder, who lives with his Aunt Sue, receives a call from his older brother to help his wife. But. There is much more wickedness going on in their hat Adam will have his hands full. There is a male-male romance that made my heart flutter. I could not put this novel down, and I recommend this novel!

I had such high hopes for this book and I am sad to say that it fell so, so short of my expectations. The main character of the novel is the only saving grace and that wasn’t enough to keep my interest. Unfortunately this book fell into the trap of trying to do too much, too soon. Give me one book about Adam and his brother, one about his father, and one exploring the Silver/Vic/Adam dynamic. Doing all three in 300 pages resulted in shallow characters and a haphazard plot. I had no emotional connection to any character past the first couple chapters. Honestly it got so bad that I skimmed the last 150 pages.

That being said, I loved Adam and the strong LGBTQ+ representation that you rarely see in Urban Fantasy is incredibly refreshing. Also seeing the Denver area come to life in a novel is delightful. Having been born and raised in Colorado, I couldn’t help but smile anytime they wandered through Downtown or other areas I see on a regular basis.

I love UF and was so excited to pick up a new entry into the genre but this one was close to making it to my DNF pile. Maybe one day I will try book 2 since the first book is usually my least favorite in a series, but we shall see…
