Writing a review and losing all text right before finishing is my villain origin story.
Now, where was I.
Right. Urban fantasy. Turns out I'm really into it and many of my favourite books belong to that genre. That's what I get for not reading the tags properly.
Back onto the story now. This had so much tenderness woven into the plot. I found myself into the brink of tears more than once, and for that I'm glad. It's not often that I get to feel this strongly for a book and this was an unexpected surprise.
I look forward to continuing Adam's story soon enough, once I gather my bearings. I don't appreciate the surprise crush I got here too. That never ends too well for me.
Damn elves.

I LOVED this book and while series. So comically accurate about Denver! This book is a testament to the urban fantasy genre as Slayton seamlessly weaves together the mortal and spirit worlds. Queer characters! POC! Exploration of generational trauma and mental health!! A must read! I can’t stop recommending it to peoole
Graphic: Alcoholism, Child abuse, Domestic abuse, Violence, and Death of parent
Moderate: Infertility

- world building for an urban fantasy (in this cause suburban fantasy) is usually pretty easy, but I didn’t really get that in this book even to the point where I got
- though the tag line is that not all magicians go to school, perhaps that might have been more apropos seeing that Adam, Robert and the reader have no idea what’s going on
- while I don’t have an issue with authors including diverse characters, especially from cultures they are not from, but his characterization of Vic and his family rubbed me the wrong way

Fun urban fantasy. A bit too much pointless copaganda for my taste…
