This book reminded me very much of a Taylor Jenkins Reid novel. I am not sure if it was the setting, west coast or the twisted famous family romance. Either way, I CAN say I do enjoy this trope. The small, deserted, close-knit town vibes were nice. Don't always love this, or it is typically creepy. thriller, or horror. But the winter and Christmas time made this town cozy and cherry.

I LOVED the character development. It was so guddd. I am such a sucker for well developed characters that have many dimensions. Prob why it reminded me of Taylor Jenkins Reid as well, her characters are impeccably written.

Only real critique was the ending or chain of events. They were kind of predictable and it was a happily ever after. It is always nice to read a book with a happy ending butttt it can be a wee bit boring as well. I kept thinking, oh they aren't going to let her wake up and resume life and yet she made a full recovery with a very low survival rate. Like a traumatic brain injury like that is very difficult to recover from.
With that being said, the plot and middle of the book was SPICYYY, holy hot tamales. Just wish the end was a wee bit more spicyyy

This book had the potential to be great, but the details were sparse and were also quite unrealistic. The story was saccharine sweet, predictable, and felt like the character development was far too simplistic. Lots of odd details that weren’t important to the story or the message. Just an odd read.

Got about 200 pages into the book and started to think I've read this before - but I'm going to finish it now that I started it:)

Could’ve been a short story instead of a novel. Red like a Hallmark movie don’t bother reading anymore Kristen, Hannah books.

DO NOT PICK UP BOOKS BY THIS AUTOR. HATE HER STYLE OF STORY TELLING. WOMEN ARE COMPLETE ONLY THROUGH MEN!

I’m giving up. I cannot being myself to care about any of these characters. I am not sure why I keep picking up books from this author. I surveyed my other ratings for her and all are 1 or 2 stars. It seems I have same reaction to her books - she writes about women made “whole” only through men! I absolutely hate this type of novel. Never again!

One other thing I hated about this book is that Mikaela is half-Hispanic and her mother is also Hispanic and their portrayal is simply to make them as white as possible. The authors has the mother sprinkle words in Spanish in her speech and it is insulting. NEVER, NEVER again!

Overall I enjoyed this book, however it took me a while to get into it. The main character fell into a coma before I was interested in her as a character and then stayed in a coma for far too long. Once she woke up I felt like the book really started. A little predictable at parts but still a good book.
