Southside Chicago postwar black family pushing at stereotypes in all directions as they struggle with poverty and prosperity and community. Rushed at the end.

I knew the basics of this story - housing discrimination in Chicago, loosely based on Hansberry’s own family experiences in Woodlawn. I expected powerful drama and history but I didn’t expect it to be so funny. I laughed out loud so many times, and Hansberry’s deft skill at writing family dynamics and all the triumph, tragedy and comedy that goes with that was incredible. I’m sorry I sat on this for so long but I’m really happy I finally read it.

3 Eye-Opening Stars 🌟🌟🌟👀

I had to read this for school and actually enjoyed this. The talk about life during segregation for a lower class family was really eye-opening and inspiring. Truly a good play.
