Pride and Prejudice still my favorite book. I love how Miss Austen writes Bennet family's problems and how they deserve better life. I like that witty Lizzy! I know Mr. Darcy wasn't an adorable person. But he's very kind and so loyal to Bingley. Must read if you like hate to love trope!

Even though it took me forever to get through this, I can't say that it was because it was boring or slow, because it wasn't. (Not all the time anyway I mean come on.) I always wanted to know more and to see what would become of everything but when I put it down, I wasn't that compelled to pick it up again. (Hence why it took so long.)
I think I read it in a good time in my life to be able to appreciate and understand this kind of novel. I enjoyed it and I see why so many people have read and liked this novel through the years and I do think it raises a lot of important questions that had me stop reading and putting the book down a second or two. But I just can't give it a full 4 star.
It was good. Just not as great as I expected.
I'll leave it at that.

I watched this movie for the first time earlier this week and became obsessed, so, of course I had to read the book. This was my first classic and I thoroughly enjoyed it. While I loved the movie, I loved the book even more.

I really felt we got more out of Darcy in the book than we did in the movie. For example: the exchanges in the book being more than what they were in the movie. How, when visiting Charlotte in Kent, their interactions were more than just the visit at Lady Catherine’s house. They spent many days walking along the same trail (which he just happened to be on every time she was) and that’s where they really seemed to get-to-know one another — where he seemed to really fall in love. Again, when he went to visit her at Rosings; their time spent was longer than a minute or two. I wish we had gotten that out of the movie, rather than it being as if they only met at random only so many times before he decided to confess his love.

Regardless, I still love both and this book has definitely become a personal favorite.

The Darcy Effect is real, y’all.

This was such a delightful read and I had so much fun reading this. I can see why this is a classic that holds with time - so many of the stories and conversations still resonate in the modern day and it was not difficult to digest at all. This was so quirky and so fun - and having a strong-headed female lead is always refreshing.

I really liked Jane as a character although she gave people the benefit of the doubt more often than I would've liked (lol not Jane Austen naming the most moral, kind character after herself); and her love line with Mr. Bingley was sweet. Lydia and Mrs. Bennett were so abrasive and shameless in their pursuit of frivolous affairs - that I found them frustrating. It's a miracle Jane and Elizabeth came out normal with such influences in the home... I will say Lydia would've had a ball in modern society but I do feel her story is quite sad as she was taken advantage of without even realizing it. It is kind of a "reap what you sow" situation but I can't help but find that her having dreams of romantic and passionate love shouldn't have been the reason for her to be stuck in a marriage with a rather unreliable character (but times were different). It is hard to pity her at times though when she is so thoughtless of those around her - she didn't even care about the distress she put her family through and the potential risk/shame she almost brought on herself and her sisters.

Mr. Bennett was surprisingly a favorite character of mine. He seemed to truly care for his daughters at his core & he puts up with so much from Mrs. Bennett. He also valued that his daughters find love in their partnerships (and in Lydia's case, he made sure to ensure she ended up in marriage rather than be shamed for life for having gone off with a man out of wedlock).

My favorite part was when Elizabeth was rejecting the proposal from Mr. Collins and Mr. Bennett said said:
"An unhappy alternative is before you, Elizabeth. From this day you must be a stranger to one of your parents. Your mother will never see you again if you do not marry Mr. Collins and I will never see you again if you do."
KING BEHAVIOR.

Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are the original enemies to lovers LOL. Mr. Darcy is such a great character but I wish more time was given to flesh out the romance between him and Elizabeth.

Quotes
- "Mr. Bennet, how can you abuse your own children in such a way? You take delight in vexing me. You have no compassion for my poor nerves."
"You mistake me, my dear. I have a high respect for your nerves. They are my old friends. I have heard you mention them with consideration these last twenty years at least."
[LOOOOLLLL]

-To be fond of dancing was a certain step towards falling in love; and very lively hopes of Mr. Bingley's heart were entertained.

-Compliments always take you by surprise, and me never.

-The day passed much as the day before had done.

-She hardly knew how to suppose that she could be an object of admiration to so great a man; and yet that he should look at her because he disliked her, was still more strange.

-...; and Darcy had never been so bewitched by any woman as he was by her. He really believed, that were it not for the inferiority of her connections, he should be in some danger.

-"How pleasant it is to spend an evening in this way! I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book! When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library."

-"I am now convinced, my dear aunt, that I have never been much in love; for had I really experienced that pure and elevating passion, I should at present detest his very name, and wish him all manner of evil. But my feelings are not only cordial towards him; they are even impartial towards Miss King. I cannot find out that I hate her at all, or that I am in the least unwilling to think her a very good sort of girl. There can be no love in all this. My watchfulness has been effectual; and though I certainly should be a more interesting object to all my acquaintances were I distractedly in love with him, I cannot say that I regret my comparative insignificance. Importance may sometimes be purchased too dearly. Kitty and Lydia take his defection much more to hear than I do. They are young in the ways of the world, and not yet open to the mortifying conviction that handsome young men must have something to live on as well as the plain."

-When Mr. Collins could be forgotten, there was really an air of great comfort throughout, and by Charlotte's evident enjoyment of it, Elizabeth supposed he must be often forgotten.

-"You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged, but one word from you will silence me on this subject forever."
