دوازده صندلی داستان نسبتا" پرکششی داره، طنزش تلخ و تامل برانگیزه، از ترجمه سلیس و روانی برخورداره که توسط آبتین گلکار انجام شده. تصاویری که در متن قرار داده شده به برداشت ذهنی خواننده از موقعیت و تصویرسازی‌اش از شخصیت‌ها کمک میکنه و هرچند نمیدونم آیا در نسخه اصلی کتاب هم این تصاویر وجود داشته یا نه با این حال به نظرم کار جالبی بود، شخصیت پردازی آستاپ بِندِر به قول یکی از تکیه کلام‌های همین شخصیت "درجه یک" بود به نظرم، در کل از خواندنش بسی لذت بردم. موقع خوندن خیلی از مواقع ذهنم به این سمت و سو می‌رفت که این شخصیت آستاپ بِندِر که برای همه مشکلات یک راه‌حلی سراغ داره تا چه اندازه شبیه اسداله میرزا دایی‌جان ناپلئونه.

Some parts of The Twelve Chairs were a bit dull and slow-going, but other bits and scenes had me giggling, laughing, or in one case (Chapter 12: "A Passionate Woman is a Poet's Dream") outright guffawing. I'm sure that there were jokes that got lost in translation and cultural jokes that went over my head, but it seems that the book could have stood to be a little shorter in order for there to be a higher concentration of laughs. Perhaps there should have been only six chairs. :-P

Iš pradžių šios knygos skaitymas buvo tikra kankynė ir kankinaus realiai, nes norėjau pažiūrėti kaip šią knygą adaptavo lietuviškas kinas. Atrodė lyg nieko nepagaunu ir tas writing style atrodė per daug sudėtingas. Ir realiai nzn ar aš pripratau ar autoriai nusprendė pradėti gerai rašyti, bet nuo vidurio knygos ir lengviau skaitėsi, ir bajeriai juokingesni. (mano fav bajeris 251psl kur šneka dialogu). Be abejo tikrai padėjo, kad skyriai neperilgiausi (dažniausiai iki 10psl).
Jei turėčiau Ostapo Benderio įžūlumo ir kūrybiškumo gyvenimas 10 kartu pagerėtų. Realiai skaitydama vis spėliojau ar man jis patinka ar aš tsg noriu būti juo. Also jis gėjus. 100% gėjus. Kitaip negaliu paaiškinti iš kur jis gavo tiek kantrybės dealinti su Ipolitu Matvejevinčiu.
Be Ostopo man patiko Viktoras Michalovičius Poleslovas. Žmogus mėgo apkalbas bei bambėti ir tuo jis man žavus.
Kinda nusivylus, kad per fizikos pamoką Ivetos perskaityta frazė "baldus dalinsimės per pusę" neturėjo tiek daug reikšmės. Galvojau, kad šis sakinys atskleis visą atomazgą :((((((((.
Lengviausia buvo skaityti tą vietą kurią Greta buvo atsisukus filme (ten su ta nesėkmingo maudymosi scena), nes visiškai nereikejo naudoti vaizduotės. Also keista pagalvot, kad knygą pradėjau fizikos kabike, o db ne tik mano gimšas, bet ir vasaros atostogos jau čia pat.

Any sort of 'made up' humour is difficult for me, whether it's in literature or film, even stand-up, it takes a lot for me to laugh. I enjoy comedies because there is still a spark of not taking life to seriously, but in books maybe I'm even pickier, but somehow more often than not it doesn't land. And sadly, 'The Twelve Chairs' is also very dated.
I was hoping that there would be more about Russia, more imagery to the adventures that Ippolit and Ostap go on as they attempt to retrieve the diamonds taken by the Soviets as they removed Ippolit's mother-in-law's chairs with the gemstones sewn into the upholstery. Of course, for the benefit of the state into the communal wealth. But it is a series of encounters with allegedly funny characters, many of which operating on the edge of the legal system. It is that sort of story where the mission is not the focus, but the people you meet along the way.
While I appreciated the humour in exactly two scenes, the one where the request of a bribe was met with 'have oats gotten expensive these days' (not gonna lie, this could be something I'd say too), and the one of the auction, everything else seemed very Laurel and Hardy-esque, just silly and not very clever. There was also a dusting of the culture of the 1920s Soviet Union, full of nepotism, hierarchies, paperwork and propaganda, but for me this didn't suffice in keeping me interested because it was turned into something insignificant by wanting to make it funny.
I've also been reading that a reason why this book is considered influential is Ostap Bender as part of the Russian canon. And I have to ask myself: why? He's a conman, a liar, a thief, and between these traits and the fact that there is a lightheartedness to him by trying to play comedy, I just don't see what's so charming here.
This book was written for the audience of its time. There isn't anything wrong with that, but a classic in my opinion is one that stands the test of time, an evergreen piece for readers coming from different epochs, backgrounds and experiences, and this isn't it.

Laugh out loud funny throughout and despite being a century old, this book feels very current. Amazon should, however, be beaten with an ornate chair for the horrendous formatting and sloppy proofreading in the Kindle edition.
