I can't even begin to explain this mess. How dare you, Mr. King.

4.5 rounded up.

First book of 2023! I'm still blasting my way through the Dark Tower series. I was a bit concerned initially that I had another massive tome that didn't get us any closer to the Dark Tower, but this one was still totally riveting. I am absolutely intrigued by the
Spoilervarious pop culture references in the Wolves
and even more so by the very end when
SpoilerStephen King makes an appearance in his own book - I love well done fourth wall breaking like this
.

I was planning on taking a break from these to read another hold that came in, but I could help myself and immediately jumped into the next one!

4 stars for getting me caught up in the story. I learned about 20 more non Stephen King books to read also.

While I'm committed to and still enjoying The Dark Tower series, this one was definitely harder to slog through (capping out over 900 pages). We cross firmly into other King books (which I haven't read) but also some pop culture I absolutely didn't expect. I'm still generally flummoxed as to where it all might land which is mainly what keeps me going.

Wolves of the Calla is my second favourite Dark Tower after The Drawing of the Three, and I'm glad it reinvigorated my interest for the series after a disappointing book 4.
This book focus on three main plots: the infamous Wolves that are going to attack the town of Calla - Mia's pregnancy and how it will affect the characters around her - the Black Thirteen. All them were interesting to follow.
What really made this book a good read though, was, once again, the main ka-tet. The Dark Tower is found family done right, it's incredible to see how far Roland has come since book 1, and all that is thanks to Eddie, Susanna and Jake (and Oy). This book also had the presence of a solid character: Father Callahan, his chapters were really interesting, and luckily, I had read Jerusalem's Lot before, otherwise the story would've been spoiled.
