It's such a good story, pretty slow and pessimistic at some point, but I love it and I love the ending.

Stephen King knows how to write classic monster horror when he puts his mind to it. I loved the Dracula books, this easily took its place among vampire classics. Chilling.

Pretty dark and scary book. There’s a core group of main characters you follow, but there’s also side characters that King goes into a lot of detail about. Making them more than just random body counts when the vampire and his minions go after them. You feel for this town in the vampire’s crosshairs. I enjoyed it a lot and it felt like an easy read to me.

Second book published by SK. On my Stephen King reread. Read it first in the late 80s.

I had quite forgotten how good a book ‘Salem’s Lot is. Always put it in the middle of the pack when rating King’s books. It has now moved solidly up into my top five..

Very high on the spooky meter.

9.5 hastily made stakes out of 10.

I’ll see you when I get to the journey to the Tower, Father Callahan…

10/10 audiobook, would recommend. The first 40% or so is good but not great, but then the book really picks up. I wanted to listen to it constantly, and then I procrastinated the last 6% because I didn't want it to be over.

King, as usual, masterfully develops his characters while also keeping the plot moving. I found myself slipping into really knowing and liking the characters without even realizing that I'm becoming attached to them. And the way he writes about evil - my god, it's good. It's beautiful and haunting; it takes one of the oldest themes in human storytelling and makes it seem new, makes me truly believe in the horribleness of the evils he depicts in a way I rarely experience in fantasy-like books. I hung onto every word of his descriptions and could vividly picture his scenes. And he weaves so much emotional nuance to horror: there's the terror, yes, but also deep sadness and amazement.
