So good! I tend to lean into an enemies-to-lovers trope, but this friends-to-lovers was perfect!! Bonus that it was written by a local author!

TW: emotional cheating/physical intimacy through the entire slow burn between both MCs. Gave me some The Roughest Draft vibes (a 2 star read for me as I really couldn’t enjoy the story or characters due to the emotional cheating aspect.)

Sarah played some fucked up mind games with Owen. But I am guilty here because I was rooting for Owen and Sarah the whole way.

The acknowledgement that Owen is Jim from The Office made me reflect on my initial feelings towards this book and embrace the workplace romance.

The end wrapped up too quickly for me. Does Sarah get the principal job? Is Eli fired for throwing the first punch at Owen?

And… Justice for Kendall! (Hoping she gets book 2 in this series).

I wanted to start my 2024 with a lighthearted, cute little romance, and Lesson Learned sounded like the perfect fit! I expected it to be sweet, gushy, and (yes) a little simple, but what I experienced reading this book was even better…

It gave me ALL the feels!

There were the cute, flirty moments I was expecting of course, but I was happily surprised to find so much more than that! The characters were so three dimensional, displaying their awkwardness and insecurities along with all the other emotions making them feel very real and life-like.

Sarah and Owen’s story was both exciting and relatable, and I couldn’t help getting excited for them to achieve not only their relationship dreams, but their goals in life as well. The inspiration they offered the reader was absolutely perfect for starting a new year and tackling new goals, and I know I made the right choice in reading this book first this year!!

Read Lesson Learned if you like friends to lovers, he falls first, and if you’re as obsessed with The Office and Jim and Pam’s relationship as I am!

This was recommended to me when I was looking for a friend’s to lovers romance and it delivered !!!

I absolutely recommend this book! The tension between Owen and Sarah is page turning!! A perfect read if you’re in the mood for jealous, “you belong with Me” vibes!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was almost a read “in a single session” - minus 20 pages haha. The dynamic between Owen and Sarah is filled with angst and tension, and it made for a great slow burn read. I also love the fact that there will be a sequel and some characters will return.

I also really enjoyed the emphasis on student-teacher relationships and how it depicted a needing more love than most type of student. Teachers always have students who make some days a struggle or a challenge, and seeing it displayed in a loving, non-judge mental way was great.

The only thing I feel like I needed in the story was more main character-side character conversations. I get that this was a more Jim-Pam type depiction, but I also see the Janine-Gregory parallels, and wanted to see more of those spiderwebs branching out. Overall, not disappointed either way!
