I hope I never have to interact with any of these Karen's. This story is all about white shenanigans and how not everyone is your friend. Wasn't my favorite book. At one point I just wanted it to be done so I Googled the ending. I still finished the book despite spoiling the ending for myself.

How did the detective not figure this thing out? Because in my humble opinion everything worked out perfectly for the women and they got off scotch free. Also these women talk to much. How are they going to keep this secret? They all like to backstab each other when they feel they will get the upper hand.

The ending on this felt a little rushed. Also a bit too much telling rather than showing. But I loved the characterization of each woman and how they felt like their own whole characters. I do wish that Olivia’s obvious sociopathy was explored a bit more.

Jeneva Rose knows how to write a damn good thriller. Usually I’d be so annoyed having to wait until the very end to find out what happened, but she provided so much drama and humour that kept me intrigued. I can honestly also say that I didn’t expect that ending at all. And the audiobook enhanced the experience for sure. Kudos to the narrators. So good!

This felt like a 3 star read for the first half of the book. The characters are painfully unlikeable (on purpose) and the writing is quite good but I just don’t feel entertained by middle aged rich housewives. Then somewhere around 60% things got REAL. The characters still suck, but there are some dark twists that I did not see coming. Read this in one day, fun and unputdownable. If you’re a real housewives fan I think you would EAT this up!

I have bitter feelings about this book. The author has a knack for writing completely unlikeable characters both in The Perfect Marriage and this book.

She does a great job of building suspense which is the only reason to keep reading.

This might be controversial to say, but I feel like this author likes to check boxes as she writes and it’s pretty much always done in an insulting way. Use a certain buzz word or hot topic? Check. Have diverse but otherwise uninteresting side characters? Check. Follow as many clichés or popular TV tropes as possible? Check.

The characters, especially in this book, are cartoony and one-dimensional.  There’s a lot of cringe-speak.

But the author does tell a story that is entertaining in itself if you accept it for what it is. Unlikeable characters with ridiculous plots and motives. It’s camp.

This is not really a thriller. I don't know what category to put it in and when books don't fit neatly into a genre people tend to be overly critical. I would call this contemporary fiction? It's enjoyable, a good beach read in my opinion. I do feel like the plot has borrowed a little too much from Big Little Lies. But overall it's a fun read.
