This was an okay book until I got about twenty pages from the end and realized that nothing had been wrapped u yet. They completely smooshed a fairly boring ending into the last twenty/thirty pages of the book and left me feeling very unsatisfied. A whole book of lead up to pretty much nothing.

I like Liz. She is a real character. Doesn't take any nonsense from people, but is also diplomatic enough to know when to just ride with it, especially if it is her male colleagues making decisions about her new job as a rescue swimmer, as though she isn't even in the same helicopter as them!
Maggie is once again called upon to help with a gruesome crime. This time some body parts have been found in a cooler, floating in the ocean off the coast of Pensacola. She heads on down there, at the request of her pal Charlie Wurth, even though there is a Cat 5 hurricane on it's way there too.
I enjoyed this fast paced thriller: it doesn't slow down, lot's of action and plenty of gross bloody references. We get to see a bit of Benjamin Platt too, which is always nice. 😊 I can't even try to say half of the names of the bacteria and infections he goes on about, but it works well with the character and his story, so I will let him have that one.
Joe Black as the bad guy is quite a chilling character. I wouldn't like to meet him down a dark alley, or anywhere for that matter. I found the setting of Pensacola, Florida really interesting and well described. It felt as though I was right there, waiting for that hurricane to hit! And Liz's bro-in-law Scott, well, he is just pathetic- enough said.
Just as good as the other Maggie books, I would recommend. 😊

This gripping, well-paced mystery novel had me staying up late to read "just one more chapter". The action kept it a smooth ride of a story, never bogged down in description or floundering for purchase. I appreciate the two main characters being strong females, and that the romance takes a backseat to the action, adventure, and mystery. It's also nice to see a villain that is believable!
I recommend it for anyone who enjoys action and adventure novels, mysteries, or just needs a good summer read.

In this one, the main plot is about a serial killer in Florida who is dismembering people. This came to light after a cooler filled with hands (three), feet and a torso was found. Maggie's dispatched to investigate--except there's a hurricane coming.
This was an incredibly fun, but more than a little gruesome, book. If you're a fan of Alex Cross, you should consider giving Maggie O'Dell a try. :)

I debated what to rate this. Most of the book bored me, I liked all the parts with Maggie, but found the rest boring. Then it picked up near the end and got interesting for her to completely gloss over how it was resolved. It was SUPER short, like "I'm here, all is well" and then it was days later. UGH!! Details would have been good. Could have been a 3 star book, but gotta rate down for that. Disappointing.
More...
