A story of dystopian societies of all translated to the future. So rich in strategy & sociological analysis, friendship & sacrifice, and much more.

Thanks to Arjen for sticking by my side even though he did NOT like this book! I, on the other hand, really loved it and we decided that I'll be continuing this series by myself. I did feel like this book was long and that maybe it could be split in two, but I just LOVED the story and the characters and the plot twists. Oh boy, the plot twists...

This series is amazing. I just love the characters, the worldbuilding, the plot twists, the laughs, the deaths, EVERYTHING. I just get all the feelz and I'm curious where the next book will take me!

“You and I keep looking for light in the darkness, expecting it to appear. But it already has.” I touch his shoulder. "We’re it, boyo. Broken and cracked and stupid as we are, we’re the light, and we’re spreading.”

MY HEART.

It's only January, but it's very possible that Red Rising will go down as my favorite series of 2023. The pacing, the plot twists, the character development, and the heart attacks (both mine as a reader and on-page) are all perfectly balanced and so deftly, masterfully handled. Brown has a way with prose that kept me on a knife's edge for the 18.5 hours I spent listening to this. Did I basically ignore my fiance for two days so I could keep listening? Maybe. It's fine, he still loves me.

The character development in this is complicated and nuanced and jaggedly sharp, and I love these people, flaws and pitfalls and all. Sevro, my baby, you hatchet-faced goblin weirdo, I love you so much.

I don't have the emotional fortitude right now to dive into the next books in the series, so I'll come back to them when I'm ready, but I can't wait to rejoin Darrow when I am.

There were parts that were only okay but the book is sweet. I'm giving it a lower rating because the plot points seem unrealistic. There are gaps I don't see covered.

Really strong ending to a fantastic trilogy! Like the previous volume, what really shines is the pacing. The plot moved at just the right pace to keep me invested in every scene and wanting to keep reading after each chapter. I flew through the last half of this book.
Also, the space battles were very well done. I never really though I would enjoy them as much as I did!

“Let others dream. Let others sing. We chosen few are the fire of our people.”

I beat my chest.

“We are not Red, not Blue or Gold or Gray or Obsidian. We are humanity. We are the tide. And today we reclaim the lives that have been stolen from us. We build the future we were promised.”

What a great ending to this trilogy. Can’t wait to continue reading the saga - as much as I know it will wreck me.

So many wonderful characters and some heart-breaking moments - Pierce Brown really knows how to put your emotions through a wringer! The relationships between most of the characters are very well thought through - Sevro especially comes across as a disgusting, but likeable goblin.

The only downside from my perspective was the epilogue - not going to say more so that I don't spoil it for anyone who is yet to get there!

I do get why this series get some bad reviews. It is long, too many things happened, too many character died, the characters' beliefs and motives can be a bit cruel and... different from what other books usually conveyed. It WAS a bit tiring for me to read but I think this book is unique in ways that kept me going till this book.

This is a book about war, hardship, space conquerors and dark sides of society. The series didn't shy away from the gruesome details and all the flaws of the main characters. Unlike many heroes, Darrow isn't the kind of person who is willing to sacrifice himself to save his honor. Unlike many 'lover of the main character' roles, Mustang isn't someone who forgives Darrow for what he had done or rushed into decisions because of her love for Darrow. This book is real and it can be ugly, but it is real nevertheless, which is why I love this series
