I loved this book! A friend was talking about it at a recent party so when I saw it I thought "why not" but I was really amazed at what a good story it is. Told as a collection of memories shared by the 'survivors' of the zombie wars years after the events its actually a really interesting commentary on current social and cultural attitudes. Like some other modern apoclypse stories you see people coming together in surprisingly inspiring ways, facing adversity with integrity but also the profiteers (I personally loved the story of the hired bodygaurd for the celebrities who were prodcasting their own reality show who are eventually overrun by regular people seeking protection). A great read I loved it, now ask yourself "could I survive the zombie apocalypse"?

Started with the book but finished with the audiobook. One of the best audiobook productions ever.

Absolutely terrifying, and funnily enough, humbling. The book is totally unique in the style in which its written - it's a compilation of tens or hundreds of fictional interviews, which cease to seem fictional as each interviewee has their own believable personality, story and mannerisms.
The first half of the book is effing terrifying, because you put yourself in the shoes of these people trying to get away from the undead, and the whole situation seems so utterly helpless. Where zombie movies often show a glimmer of hope with survivors easily fighting them off, the Zombie War seems like a lost cause at times and you just feel like you want to let them eat you and rip you to shreds.
One of my favourite books, fer sure.

This was pretty okay. Not sure if it lived up to what people made it out to be.
The format was interesting but I got tired of reading about how great America was against the zombies. The stories that came across as most interesting were the ones that took place in other countries.

While I think the audiobook of this novel made it significantly more bearable this book was so repetitive. Typically I am not a fan of zombie stories so I tried to go into this with an open mind, but it felt entirely too much like military propaganda. The same stories that "humans are garbage and the military is the best" and not nearly enough variety in human experiences.
