I really enjoyed the historical aspect of this book, still liked the story, but was a little disappointed at the end. Don't get me wrong, it wraps up nicely, I'm just used to a bit more from Ted DekKer. I still love his work and would recommend him to everyone, but I think that the resolution was a bit to abrupt after such a suspenseful body.

Steven was a successful realtor that didn’t take himself too seriously, loved to take risks and make people laugh. When he realizes his connection to Rachel, a Holocaust survivor who recently passed away, it sends him on a quest to find the treasure that holds much more than wealth.
Overall, I liked this story. It started out a bit slow but 50 pages in, I was my interest grew. The story started taking shape as the dual timelines were connected.
I enjoyed the suspense and the deep bonds felt between all of the characters in their perspective timelines. The pace of the story was good throughout with a few exceptions. The romance plotline between Steven and Esther was a bit too fairytale like and was unnecessary.

5.5/10 Stars. This novel just drug on. At least 2/3 of it were the main character plotting ways to break into a building. The "action" if you will, was reserved for the last 80-ish pages. And it got a little bit sexist and stalkerish towards the end. Not romantic, creepy. The idea itself was interesting but execution left a lot to be desired. Think I may be done with Ted Dekker. His books always come out too religious-y and even if there is sometimes a good twist, it's usually among so much convoluted crap that you finish the book still confused with too many unanswered questions.

Love the blend of allegory with gritty Holocaust memoir, spiritual themes as you warp from that time into 70's. Definitely one of DeKker's darkest, and a bit red at times. Not my fave, but as always, DeKker reads like a movie.

I feel like I write the same review for all of Ted Dekkers books: brilliant, amazing storyteller, etc. Obsessed did not disappoint. The mystery of it all with the back story set in a Nazi Germany prison camp & the repercussions that followed had me on the edge of my seat. Quick, fast paced read I really enjoyed this book.
