From the book:
"Freedom is being able to choose whoever and whatever you want to be at any moment in your life. If you have to act in a particular way to avoid being something you don't like, you're trapped. You've limited your freedom and robbed yourself of your wholeness. If you can't be lazy, you can't be free. If you can't be angry when something upsetting happens, you can't be free. If you deal with someone's behavior by being the opposite, question yourself. If you are constantly annoyed by a particular group of people, find the ways in which you are like them. It's not only our negative traits that we project onto other people; it's also our positive traits. Most people whom I work with project their genius and creativity, their power and success. If you want to be like others, it's because you have the ability within you to be like them. If you are enthralled by megastars and spend time and money reading about their lives, find he aspects you love in them inside of you."

This book was amazing, it made me look deeper within myself and realize that I am constantly mirroring myself in everyone I communicate with. Every person in my life is there to help me learn more and more about me and remind me what I like or dislike about myself. :) I borrowed this book from library but then I bought one copy for myself too.

Beautiful concept but too much self advertising. Repeating the same points over and over again throughout the book.

the teachings are fine but it hasn’t aged well. there are fatphobic comments made in nearly every chapter. There is a very gross section where the author
Recalls a client who was sexually assaulted in a horrifically violent event, Debbie recommends that this person invent positive interpretations for why this event happened including that it was a “blessing in disguise.” </violent> it comes across as victim blaming and could be easily triggering to anyone with a history of abuse.

This is going to become a regular re-read for me and I honestly think every single person should read it. It's the most actionable book I've found on shadow work, describing what your shadow actually is and how to bring your self to whole was and truly be a better person.

I abandoned it when I got the parts about [insert horrible triggering thing] was a blessing because it made a person more resilient, and that getting arrested and going to jail was good because it helps a lot of people find god.
