So Good!

This book starts off strong, slows down a bit, picks back up and then it lost me for a bit or slows down so much.

The breakup part was heartbreaking 💔 Nick has struggled so much since losing Emily and he found Meredith but didn’t really know how to handle his feelings once they deepened.

I picked this book up again today after a week or and plowed through it because the story just connected with me. Emotions are weird lol

It started with a kiss...

It was just to get her to stop talking, but Nick has another thing coming from the sudden fireworks that one kiss ignites in his veins. He can't let this happen again. The organ in his chest hasn't beat right in 12 years.

Meredith knows that she will not let this happen, no matter how hot that kiss was, she would never get involved with this man whose one goal in life is to push every one of her buttons. He doesn't know anything about her life, only what he's heard.

That first kiss may have been a mistake, but that isn't where it ends. This one was an epic battle of wills and I felt like I was actually there, as a part of the story. My heart felt every happy moment, and broke with every twist.

It's just as great a read, if not better than Jax and Charlie's. From the sparks between them to the tears you will most likely shed, but the beat is in every moment.

This is Nick and Meredith's story. We were introduced to this couple in Written in the Beat (Heart Beats #1). Nick is a record label exec who is still grieving his fiancée, Emily, who died in a car accident years earlier. Meredith is a dancer who is best friends with Charlie, who we met in the previous story.

What worked for me:
-This included some of my favorite romance tropes: Enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, Grumpy/Sunshine, forced proximity, "We'll sleep together one time to get it out of our system"
-Nick and Meredith's transition from enemies to friends was great. I loved seeing them interact while planning Jax and Charlie's wedding
-Nick taking on the role of protector when he encounters a drunk Meredith at the club
-Spicy romance - There's definitely chemistry with these two. And sometimes you just need a good slap on the ass when getting it on ;)
-The Swear Jar conversations made me laugh, especially Nick paying up in advance

What didn't work for me:
-The story started out strong but Nick turned into such a fuckboy that needs intense therapy. Some of his actions were borderline abusive, like the jealousy, the verbal put-downs, and the intense mood swings. I know this was a result of his grief, but damn, it made me mad
-Meredith putting up with Nick's crap frustrated me. She was way more forgiving than I would have been

In the end, Nick pulled his head out of his ass and the ending was very sweet. I especially liked the part where they visited Emily's grave together.

Overall, I give this story 3.5/5

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Meredith & Nick

Nick is broken. He had his life torn from him years ago and still hasn’t recovered. I was not a fan of Nick in the first book (Charlie & Jax story, Written in the Beat) so to see him totally redeem himself was fantastic.

Meredith is a childhood friend of Jax and was on tour with him as his choreographer/dancer. She’s outgoing and has the kindest heart. She gives a million chances if she feels someone’s intentions are pure.

They seem like such an unlikely couple but also just what each other need to fix the pieces of themselves that are shattered. They go from Meredith hating Nick, to building a great friendship, to something more. Seeing the more unfold tears at your heartstrings multiple times and it is not without several bumps.

I love this little world Breanna Lynn has created. She has a way with words that make you care for her characters and emphasize with them.

This was an enemies, to friends, to lovers romance which definitely tugged on the heartstrings.
Nick in all his clueless glory took a while to realise what his heart already knew. Watching him come to terms with the reality of his feelings was sometimes difficult. I definitely winced a couple of times at his behaviour. But he came good in the end.
Meredith was sweeter, kinder, more down-to-earth than I first thought and I loved the genuine softer side to her.
A great read!

In the Beat of the Moment, book two of the Heart Beat series by Breanna Lynn, will be going down as one of my favorite reads of 2021.

What I thought was a slow start that struggled to catch my interest was actually due to real life (darn adult responsibilities) getting in the way. Once I was able to dedicate time to actually read uninterrupted, I was hooked and found myself speeding through it.

This book follows Meredith, the best friend from the female lead of book one. Struggling to find a purpose, she volunteers herself to assist her friends in planning an event. The only catch? Somehow getting herself roped in to letting Nick the Dick plan it with her. Emotions and feelings go from hating his existence, to tolerating, to something more. I don't want to ruin anything but I promise you, this is not your typical run of the mill enemies to lovers trope and you will end up falling for this book and Breanna.

I'm sorry you have to read this...

But let's also play the drink if... you see the word sorry. It's amazing the intelletict the guy Nick has. Better then a lot that I've read.

This book gives you so many feels and I felt like I read multiple stories in one.
✔enemies to friends to lovers
✔steamy scenes
✔ music man/farmer/jerk but also wounded

This story had so much going on but I couldn't put it down. I was crazy busy with moving but just enjoyed this all so much.

Wonderful story and a MUST read!!!

Nick's past has him guarded, he doesn't do relationships. Your typical one and done kind of guy. He is drawn to Meredith but since she is Charlie and Jax's best friend he knows that she is off limits. Meredith wants her own HEA and she knows that Nick won't be the one to give it to her. He is a jerk of epic proportions but a super sexy jerk. When they volunteer to plan a wedding for Jax and Charlie their time together has their chemistry combusting and they agree to a friends with benefits that must be kept secret from Jax and Charlie. But when feelings get involved things usually tend to get complicated and blow up.

These two were fun, I loved their banter and their chemistry was melting my kindle. I loved the natural progression of their relationship, I could feel them falling even if Nick was a ding dong and refused to believe it. Both of them had baggage to overcome but they flourished together and I really loved watching them open up and heal each other. Another instance where Nick said some dumb things in his grief but he got his head put on right and got his girl. Great book where I didn't think I would like Nick after the first book. Highly recommend this one.
