Happy Friday the 13th to me. Read this right after the movie, so it was a bit disappointing. Nice addition of the wasp thing with the dad but did not enjoy the actresses turning into their younger, slimmer selves (WHY WAS THAT NECESSARY?) for their performance or Coraline not liking the smell of "exotic food." The movie is so good and normally, the books are better but maybe not in this case. Wondering if I should read the actual book...

I feel like I am listening to him tell a story as I read this book. Slightly creepy, creative read.

Wow, this is so different than the movie, and also very different from my mental idea of the book when I read it a couple years ago. I enjoyed the different take on it, but I think overall I prefer the quirky style of the movie. I did think that the other parents were more creepy in this version, and the other mother really creeped me out in every panel. Coraline seems more internally stronger than the movie, more true to her heroic book form. She's definitely a strong heroine.

Well, [a:Neil Gaiman|1221698|Neil Gaiman|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1234150163p2/1221698.jpg], so that already pumps me up for the book.
Coraline didnt disappoint. Its a dark and creepy story about Coraline finding her way back home. It's a story about bravery and overcoming our fears. It's a story about belief.
I don't know how he does it, but in this very short story, Gaiman managed to stuff in so many beautiful little lines.
Raving about his world building and narration seems redundant, so I am only going to say that this book found me when I needed it.
And isn't that such a wonder?
