Finally a book that lived up to the amount of crazy I want from these books pretty much start to finish. Just a bonkers ride. "Good" is meaningless. This was "good" in the way I really wanted Don't Worry Darling to be good which is to say not good but amazing

Oh, what a pleasure this book was! There’s something about being inside the criminal mind that is absolutely fascinating, and this book is no exception. This one is, for me, the perfect exemple of a page-turner. I was hooked from the beginning.

The writing is what I’d call “efficient”. It’s quick, witty, no extra words or lyrical prose. It keeps you focused on the characters and the plot, and makes it really easy to get carried away by the story.

One of my favorite aspects of the book were the family dynamics. The books I’ve read that were narrated from the point of view of the criminal mostly featured loner types, isolated characters who didn’t have to worry too much about being caught by their loved ones. So I really liked seeing how parents and children reacted to each other here. They felt real to me, and I was constantly worried for the kids.

My Lovely Wife is an addictive read with a captivating plot and complex characters, and the tension will keep you on the edge of you seat page after page. And it’s got quite a good ending, too, all things considered.

My first Samantha Downing book finished in just two days! Wow I love this nasty, page turner book. I love how the couple find the weirdest thing ever so entertaining for them. And oh - can I just say the plot twist is unexpected - I never saw that coming! Because when you read this you will be so puzzled you will not stop reading. Glad that justice has been served in the end. I so love this book! A fresh take from my usual domestic - thriller books for the past few weeks. A movie too please for this one? Highly recommend!

it's not often i read a book that actually manages to genuinely surprise me. this book does just that. i was constantly in awe at some of the decisions these characters make. Definitely a quick-to-read, shocking, and grotesque novel. 4 stars.
THINGS I LIKED
-the unnamed narrator. at first i didn't even notice that we didn't get his real name, but i actually like this. not only does it further push him as not his own person, but the other part of his wife, Millicent, but it also adds to his almost-unreliable narrator feel.
-the ending. the last line, more specifically. it reminds us that while he may not be as guilty as his wife, he is not entirely innocent. (thinking back to the incident with the frog that he talks about in the beginning of the story.)
-the children. they remind us that these people have regular lives and things to take care of. I feel like they also act sort of like a base for the humanity of the main characters. It is hard to forget that they are heinous people committing heinous acts when they have such typical, normal children.
