My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing

Easy, fun read. This novel reminded me in some ways of “Gone Girl,” with an interesting though not altogether surprising twist. Can love make us do unspeakable things, or are we only capable of those things if they are in our nature to begin with? This is a palate cleanser if you’re looking for a popcorn book to break up heavier reads.

Within the first 2 chapters I was hooked. So exciting, witty, and intriguing. I flew through the pages even though some parts were a little dragged out. The end felt a little rushed compared to the pace throughout the rest of the book, but overall it was a wonderful read.

Not just for a debut, but for any mystery/ thriller this book was AY-MAZING. So different and unpredictable. The writing draws you in, the concept is original. Millicent and her husband who is the narrator have gotten bored with their marriage. This is certainly a twist I wouldn't recommend in real life, lol. I really loved it and would read anything Downing writes in the future. Jaw dropping until the very end.

giving this book 2 stars is generous
honestly the first half of the book was such a chore
there was little development on the characters or whatsoever, making the characters so flat. the writing was kinda blunt and that’s it. which is ok i guess.
the only part i liked was when his wife was like ‘lol i can’t believe setting you up was so easy’ and then from there up until the resolution. like ok this book is not meant to be realistic, but, really? did no one question his involvement? or why he had to use an alias? the resolution was pretty weak and i have a hard time believing that people would let him continue to look after his kids....
anyway

At first I found it interesting but by 50% of the book I was bored. There is really no mystery to this book. You're basically reading about two married serial unalivers living their everyday lives between an occasional murder.

The twist that did happen didn't exactly surprise me. It made sense that it could happen. Wish it was more interesting.

The final was a little bit disappointing, but the story is still worthy

I thought it was more Mr & Mrs Smith meets Heathers instead of Dexter. I don’t know what this was really, but I couldn’t put it down. 4.75 rounded up!
