Good things: the slow burn hating to loving thing was immaculate. There was tension, actual hatred followed by uncertainty, pining and love. This is an author who understands tension. That was pretty much it. There was a lot of repetition both of phrases, ideas and thoughts that made parts of the book drag and the actual drama with the mafia families was a bit hard to follow and seemed like it was filling up spaces in the story.

"I don't want to be loved."
"Let me love you anyway."

- mafia romance
- forbidden: lawyer x client
- sister’s brother-in-law
- hate to love
- forced proximity
- slow burn
- 🌶️🌶️/5
- dual pov

Premise: your sister begs you to work on her brother-in-law’s case. But the lawyer in charge makes you move in with him during proceedings.

One word to describe Elena and Dante’s dynamic is intoxicating. There’s overwhelming chemistry and slow-burning tension, heightened by the forced proximity and forbidden lawyer/client relationship.

Elena is such a formidable FMC. She’s the perfect mix of strong yet vulnerable. When the only men she’s ever loved chose her sisters over her, she’s naturally afraid to give her heart to Dante. But he doesn’t give up, slowly charming her and pushing her to give him a chance. When she does give in, trusting him in every way? 🔥

Dante is also a complex character, blending ruthlessness with kindness. I love how this juxtaposition plays out in the book. Add in great character development, and you have a winner.

Mafia romance is something I swore I would never read. And yet... here I am. At least it wasn't the arranged marriage trope because that is my kryptonite and I don't mean that as a positive thing. Sometimes my inner feminist appears from where it lives and asks me what the hell. Joke aside, strong female lead and morally grey love interest for the win.

2.5 stars. Um... no. Just no. Could have been so good but that ending just ruined it for me.

I hate myself though so I will be reading the 2 book.
