The Diamond Secret: A Retelling of Anastasia, by Suzanne Weyn

This book is decent and is a little more historically based than the movie "Anastasia" that it is heavily borrowing from. As a fan of the musical as well, I loved the character of Ivan as he was a perfect combination of Dmitry and Gleb, whom while watching the play I felt had amazing chemistry and seemed to have a fondness for Anya. This was written before the play, so it is fairly original though

The writing is stilted and not very natural in speech, but the story keeps your interest and honestly I liked it even if the real life tale is not a happy ending

Have you ever seen the animated film Anastasia<.I> by Don Bluth? If you have, then you know this story. We don't have a zombie Rasputin haunting Nadya, and the non-love interest con man is a displaced Russian nobleman, yearning for his missing wife and son, (oops, and they do give us a little bit about the execution of the Romanov family) but other than that, it's the same story.

My brain kept singing songs from the movie while I was reading it. Since this book was written after that movie was released, I couldn't help feeling that she should have made more of an effort to differentiate between the two stories.

Not as good as some of the other Once Upon a Time series. Besides, it sounds vaguely familiar. Oh that's right! Warner Bros. already made this movie... It's called Anastasia.

Anastasia is rotting in the woods, but I'm glad that made a happy (although fake) ending.

I enjoy this series. This one felt very similar to the animated movie so I didn't end up imagining as much as I would have liked but it still had some differences and I enjoyed it.

The book would be great if you haven't seen the 1997 Anastasia, if you have its gonna be real familiar. Might ring a bell or sixty. Also, seriously ? You have to romantically jump on a boat to America right after she gets her memory back? Can't hang out with grandma for even a day or two? Sigh.

Very very similar to the animated movie. Skips ahead for convenience and overall lacking depth. The romance was forced as well.

This book was okay but didn't have much of the magic of the other Once Upon A Time books. I knew going in that this would be a lot like the 1956 film and was prepared, but that wasn't what hurt the book for me. Moments that should have been filled with emotion felt flat. The secondary story of a Count looking for his lost family was much more entertaining to me than that of the main characters.

I didn't really like this book. It was just like the Disney movie Anastasia. I really liked the movie, but reading it was too much like Deja vu... It had some parts I liked, like the flashbacks and Ivan being a soldier. The only surprising thing was the ending.

Basically the animated movie with some name changes. But I like the movie so that's fine!
