Tolstoy definitely succeeded in creating characters who are real and flawed and, at times, insufferable. At the very least I can now pretentiously say I have read this. Justice for Anna though, my girl just needed some therapy.

Wow. Every paragraph with Levin was amazingly pleasant. The book starts slow but the historical setting, prosaic, beautiful writing and the characters make it enjoyable, but what makes it a masterpiece is the end third, where all the charactor building satisfyingly pays of. Anna’s relationship with vronsky feeling so real, Levins even more crushingly real existential troubles and what it all amounts to which I can’t talk about without spoiling the book. If you enjoy quality literature you will be glad to have read this.

Still good, not as good as I remembered it but the last few chapters are perfect. Would be 5 stars if it was a book just about Kitty and Levin but Anna is so unlikeable and selfish I found it hard to enjoy her plotline at times…. with that said, you can see Tolstoy truly understands the depth of human feeling so you can’t help but appreciate her story all the same. 4.5
