When I read Pullman's Dark Materials, I never thought he could write something so different from it like The Broken Bridge or The Butterfly Tattoo. The reader can still feel his fantasy - in The Broken Bridge, there's the voodoo - but there's a real story before it. Ginny's problems are that of every teenager who's looking for their place in the world: school, friends, school, family... Ginny's story is a story about us teenagers trying to learn who we are.

I loooooved this book! So heartfelt, a story of betrayal and mystery. It also deals with coming of age concepts and the feeling that your world is going to crash all around you.
Ginny is sixteen, and lives in Wales with her dad. She's got a summer job, a best friend, and, best of all, her crush is coming back for the summer. But then she finds out that her dad has been lying to her for her entire life. All of a sudden, reality comes flooding in and she soon realises that nothing was as it seems. Even her crush is hiding something. But what lengths will they go to in order to keep it from her?

A sweet coming-of-age kind of story for the young adult. Unfortunately, I couldn't connect emotionally to this book, but this is completely individual.

The sad thing is the book did start out good!
I really was enjoying the story and finding out the tale as it went along, the lies & buried history and all, but as it went on I found myself being a bit frustrated.
The characters seemed to want to stay one dimensional, and the story felt more like something moving from A to B to C without any heart or real intent.
A pity as Pullman usually has more pull, man!
