This book started strong for me but really ended without much UMPH (for lack of a better word).  The prose-pretty ordinary which is ok, but that is where everything just stalled for me. Where is the meaningful riveting dialogue, the laugh out loud moments amid the serious nature of the book, the lively conversation between characters??? 2.5 stars as the premise was interesting and I did finish it but I wasn't satisfied with it.

This thriller was fine, it just wasn't particularly memorable for me. While the concept was intriguing, the characters weren't as strong as Clark's other thriller The Lies I Tell, which I enjoyed a lot more. The pacing also felt a little off for me, just a bit too slow.

it wasn't anything to write home about for me, but probably the best book club selection so far. fast-paced despite the dreaded historical time jumps and flip-flop narrator perspectives (every book we read i s2g). the whole time i thought
Spoilerthe abusive ex caused the plane crash or purposefully sent claire on a plane known for issues in hopes it would crash to gain a sympathy vote for his senatorial rule
but i guess not? it also felt like we should
Spoilerpraise danielle by the end of the book for trying to help claire in the end despite feeding into claire's husband's abuse by reporting when she was late to things and never offering help despite knowing claire was being physically abused for YEARS
and i'm major side-eyeing the author for that.

Hmm… I am not sure how to feel about this book. The writing was very enjoyable and easy to read through but there wasn’t much happening for some of the book. I think it had so much more potential for a denser and more intriguing plot but it wasn’t bad either way. I’m glad at least one of them truly made it in the end.
