I didn't read every single page of this but from recipes I've used in the past I am certain this would be an excellent addition to our cookbook library; I'm just not sure how often I would pick it up. And as always: though it is not common with this style of cookbook, I always want more photos! Or in this case, more drawings...

Not the most practical cookbook--I imagine a lot of the niche ingredients were hard to find in 1992 and in many cases still not available near me. But there are worse ways to spend an afternoon than reading through amazing Italian recipes.

Purchased this a replacement and update to my tattered copy of Hazan's first cookbook. This includes the first and second cookbooks and fortunately also contains most of the informative and evocative text and descriptions from the first book as well. I read the entire volume through this past weekend, comparing old to knew before becoming confident that this could replace the original on the active shelf while my old favorite was archived to a safe and protected space.

One of the best cookbooks I've read. I imagine I'll keep revisiting this one. It is the only book I have that deserves it's spot next to Mastering the Art of French Cooking.

Has a lot of good recipes, can be a bit hard to follow, but it a good basis for italian cooking for people less familiar.

The only thing better than reading and trying to emulate her brilliance, are my imaginary images of cooking with Marcella in her home kitchen.

truly an all timer. This is one of the cookbooks that I like to look through, not so much because I wish to cook from it, but because I love Marcella's voice. Tell me how you REALLY feel about squid ink pasta Marcella!!!!!

Stand outs for me are: the sausage and bell pepper pasta. I don't even like bell peppers particularly, but, annoyingly, peeling them does make all the difference. This recipe is so good.

The smothered onions. Terrific.

The chicken. It's the only roast chicken we make, all others (yes even the famous buttermilk) are a disappointment.

Modern cookbooks are filled with beautiful photos of the food, lots of spacing, large fonts for easy reading and detailed instructions. This book does not have those things.

This is a glorious, dense, compact, and extensive covering of Italian cooking. Broken up into sections by main ingredient, this book is filled with all the food you would want for glorious Italian food. Including, at the end, a well compiled series of menus for building an entire dinner around the various dishes found in this book. It doesn't show photos of what the food should look like, and the instructions are packed into small print, but if you take the time to learn the ways in here you'll enjoy some wonderful food.
